It's a so-called Great Helm, pretty common during the 13th century I believe.

The Monty python version is a rusty, upside-down bucket with studs enough for the most enthusiastic LARPer. But yeah, it stands for a Great Helm.

I think it's because I really like the look of brodie helmets that the British used during both WWs, and since the design was inspired from the kettle hat, I've developed quite a feel for it too. It also contributes a lot to why the Rhodoks are my favourite faction in Warband, with their sharpshooters using these and all, I just love it.
