| Battle of Rain at River Lech In 1618 no one could guess that another Czech uprising would evolve in the greatest and most devastating war in XVIIth century and leave German Habsburg Monachy on the verge of destruction. The net of alliances and common interests caused the local war to become a global conflict between catholics and protestans. Later on, even the religions lost its meaning and everything bacame just a game of great European powers. In 1629 Sweden was pulled into war by France, uncontented to see Habsburgs gaining the upper hand. After defeating catholic forces at Breitenfeld (1631), Gustavus Adolphus decided to go further through German lands and invade those, that were yet untouched by war. Bayern, as a most valuable ally of the Emperor, became a new target. To get there, Swedish army had to cross either Danube or Lech River - they chose the second one, smaller and easier to attack. Having predicted the Swedish plans, Cont Tilly, the main commander of 25 thousand Germans loyal to the Emperor Ferdinand, ordered to fortify their positions on the River between Augsburg and Rain. On 14th April 40 thousand soldiers under Swedish banners arrived at the western bank of River Lech, going to cross it at any cost... |
Three phases of event
The River 1)Sieging the trenches The Swedish engineers have done well. The feint attack on fortified Imperial center, heavily supported by the artillery, as well as tons of smoke from cannons and burning straw, allowed them to secretly place a pontoon bridge on the river during the night, around 10km away from the main battlefield. 300 Finnish reiters immediatelly secured the crossing for the rest of Swedish assault squads. Being able to use the forces that could attack the enemy from behind, Swedes were now going to capture the German positions on the other side… Notes: 2 flags to capture in German trenches Using cannons from German camp is forbidden! The Empire Strikes Back! 2)Open field battle The Swedes gained control over the river, but not all is lost for the imperial army! – their main force is still concentrated in the camp, now ready to counterattack and push the invaders back whence they came! The last stand of Tercios
3) Kill'em all!
Count of Tilly, the main commander of Imperial army, used to be adventurer like you, but then he took a cannonball in the knee. The second in command also ended up knocked unconscious with a skull fraction. Being aware of panic in the German army, next commander ordered an immediate retreat. Thus, most of Imperial army was saved, but not all. Some of infantry regiments had their way of retreat cut off by the triumphant Swedish cavalry, ready to smash the remains of their enemy. But the Tercios will not give up that easy…
Notes:
Battle shall be fought on big open field on the other side of the tree line – closer to pontoon bridge
HRE forms one big Tercio (about 50:50 muskets&pikes) and defends against Swedish cavalry
1st round – Swedes using simple caracole (will create short video showing the proper way)
As long as they prove it useful they may keep using this tactic again and again, then Swedish commander decides to continue assault in meele after the reiters shoot their pistols.
2nd round – massive frontal charge of reiters. Each rank fires both pistols already charging, as close to the enemy as possible, then switches to melee jumping into wall of pikes. Cavalry may attack in waves or simultaneously from many sides, it’s up to Swedish commander.

There will be faction comanders, everyone who takes part in the event must be on its TS.
All regiments' leaders must come to commanders' meeting on TS at 17:00 GMT
We need to give them instructions about each event phase and set whispers within their factions.
