Stupid question time, which version to buy for gamersgate Warband?

Users who are viewing this thread

I have my Warband bought from gamersgate, however the Viking Conquest DLC there says it uses steam, unlike the regular Warband itself. So where can I buy version that works with my Warband?

Edit:

Forgot what i wrote, just read the DRM-Stuff from gamersgate (what a bull**** ... why do they even sell the stuff then anyway?).

I guess that is the reason why i only use Steam as an online-order-service for my games.
It maybe a piece of "$&&" of a company, but at least its all at one spot.

I bought my version of VC from gamersgate thinking it would be a normal addon, but it has supplied a steam key
According to steam, if I add my normal Warband key it says it is not valid, and if I key in my VC key it says I need the main game installed.

So any guide appreciated. Not sure why only steam can supply this Mod, I would have preferred a straight download

Actually it seems gamersgate has changed my Warband to steam version too. I am not sure when this happened since its been a while since I last time played Warband, however, I never had steamkey before. Yozzer I suggest you contact gamersgate customer support, the key I was provided worked for steam.

Edit:
I don't even see the old key I used to activate my warband manually anymore.

I have notified Gamersgate, as I did not see when I bought the DLC last month that it said it would be a Steam key. They sent a pretty odd reply telling me to get in touch with Taleworlds to find out, so I rephrased my question to make it super clear, (will the key they have supplied work on a non steam version of VC, if it does not, refund please), still waiting on a reply.

There is a reply on another thread that says Steam keys will work on a non steam DLC of VC. We will see

I think the change date back from january 2014 when Taleworlds decided to work on its own as Paradox was its former publisher.

Paradox has also changed most of its non DRM games on gamersgate to steam keys around the same time(crusader kings, magicka...). And that included the M&B series on gamersgate. Before it wasnt with drm, now it is steam keys.

You can buy it DRM free from GOG.com

GamersGate will probably give you a refund if you ask nicely, although they do state on the game's page under requirements that it is a Steamworks game. Could be more pornounced though, especially since I am sure lots of people still have the old non-Steam Warband on GG (I know I do).

If you do want to get Warband on Steam though it goes on sale for $5 almost every month and will more than likely be a daily deal during the upcoming Steam holiday sale in a week or two. Warband's retail release was the Steam version too.

EDIT: It seems the GamersGate version of Warband also includes a Steam key! I did not know that until now. So if you did buy Warband on GamersGate, you can go to your profile there and go to your copy of Warband and there will be a key there you can activate on Steam. Much easier than asking for a refund and buying VC somewhere else.
