How can I join an army?

How do I join an army like in freelancer, I remember suggesting it in the suggestions board and someone said it was already implemented.  I cannot find the option so any help would be welcomed!

Well, it's already implemented, but it's implemented in 1.6 beta, which haven't been released yet. But lucky for you, it'll be released in the next four to five days!

This is currently bugged, there is only a dialogue with your commander that gives you +1 relations. No options to go on leave or leave the army. Game crashes when you request audience with your commander while in a city.
