[research] macedonia

Users who are viewing this thread

hey
well mostly of the items for macedons we already have
(mostly are similar to the Greeks - Alexander movie items)
and some you probably already seen thems it in the last path (brf. packs )

any way we still haven't managed troop trees

and our point of view would be to make not just Greeks (but much as possible a historical Macedonian faction)
our time period is something close to Alexander the great timeframe (323 BC) and Pyrrhus of Epirus (272 BC)

our future mission will be to do separated factions without mercenaries (and if our coders will be enough experienced in future we may add ability to be in battle as an mercenary of a different factions )

so here is some random pictures i googled recently

officers ranks (and maybe even a troop class)
strategos - mine suggestion 1 troop in battle of this side
Lochagos - infantry comander (mine suggestion max one after each 25 infantry man's in this side = max 25% from infantry class)
Toxarch - archers leader (again mine offer max 25%) (need some more knowledge about use of non mercenary archers of macedons side)
Hetairos - companion cavalry leader (again mine offer max 25% fom a cavalry units)

still havent found any name for pelast officer name

I'm no expert in history, but I know the Macedonian infantry had very small shields. Enough to cover their body if they put it directly over their head, but no bigger. Makes sence though, the phalanx would be alot slower in battles otherwise.

From what I've found the Akonkistai were the Peltasts of the day. The Macedonians really didn't have specific units of javelin men besides those that were under merc service, and even those were thrown into the generalization of Akonkistai, of which was javelin men and slingers. They fell under the direct command of the Strategos, but were generally under the command of the Lochagos in battle.

Lots of pics incoming. (Note: these are not all of Macedonians, but should give a good idea of the basic unit composition for most Hellenistic states)

Yeah they generally hailed from regions like Illyria and Thrace, the Macedonians themselves weren't particularly renowned light infantrymen.

I believe most of them should work for Macedon (and most other Hellenistic states), here they are:

it is nice to see a fine progress on research
by the way i would love to see more standard types if here is any about macedons - Greeks (would be good to separate it in some way if it is possible and if here is at all such things)

Well there is the typical Vexillum (I don't know the Greek name for it...) with the star/sunburst of Macedon on it.

And simpler standards such as the one on the right in this image:

Other than that I haven't seen much regarding Macedonian battle standards... I'll look into it.
