I didn't know the word "Islam" could be translated into "peace" but there are different kinds of peace. Wanting peace doesn't necessarily mean you want to be peaceful toward your enemies or everyone who exists, it could be describing a peace of mind that comes from enlightenment or from following rules.

Anyway, it does get a little tiresome to have to listen to all of this "none of these hundreds of thousands of Muslims are really Muslim" nonsense after every boneheaded attack. Only the nice guys are truly Muslim? What a relief!

I live in a muslim country(and all my family members are muslims too) and I noticed that most of the muslims here have an "islamist way of thinking (racist,violent,salafist), but most of them just fear to face the consequences of their actions, and that's what makes them stay relatively calm, I heard some of my close friends glorify the attack on charlie hebdo, and some other ones saying that the islamic state is doing good in kicking western ass. So yes, there are no good or bad muslims, only muslims

Pretty amusing, given that all the western asskicking that they're not on the receiving end of is merely a gaggle of unarmed civilians trying to help the area or get it there.

Well, I know that it is far from being true, but I just wanted to portray how most of the muslims think to put an end to the good vs bad muslims argument

That's interesting -- may I ask what country do you live in?

And it's also very interesting that what you say corresponds almost word to word with what Sam Harris et al. have said about "extremism" in Islam. That it's not really extremism in Islam, but it's a mix of some very mainstream beliefs and then not being afraid of consequences(which most are).

Boko Haram are using kidnapped children (mainly girls) from Chibok and other towns as forced suicide bombers. There was another attack yesterday involving a 10 year old girl as the bomber.

Makes me sick to my ****ing stomach.

Holy ****, this is the same kind of argument I see being made by conservative racists in Youtube comments sections, who claim that whites in the U.S. are going to be a minority by whatever year because of derty illeguhl immigrantz.

I'm a bit ashamed to call myself an atheist after seeing such a well known figure in the atheist community publish an article that doesn't amount to much more than fear mongering of an invasion of dirty Muslamics, in a fashion similar to post-9/11 reactionism which we claim to have left behind. People seem to turn a blind eye to innocent Muslims being killed in incredibly large numbers but once some white Europeans are killed, oh boy, now it's apparent that Muslims everywhere support terrorism and killing.

And that's GLOBAL rate of decline. In Europe it's higher due to easy access to education and healthcare, plus the influence of Western secular culture.

Reuters is not the first media source to debunk the myth and neither is Pew the first research group to prove it through statistics, so I have no clue why Harris keeps flinging it around.

It's not a "rate of decline". It is a declining rate of increase. Just quibbling.

If you can't be bothered to click the link and read the article, the pundit who claims to be a "terrorism expert" says that Birmingham in the UK is 100% Muslim and non-Muslims just don't go there at all. Furthermore, parts of London are policed by an Islamic police that beats up people who aren't wearing "Muslim dress" whatever that means. Meanwhile, in the real world, there is no such religious police in the UK and about 22% of Birmingham's population is Muslims by 2011 Census data.
