Buying new graphics card

Users who are viewing this thread

I'm considering buying a new card too and my current candidate is the GTX560 TI. It's pretty cheap and very quiet and cool. Was considering buying an overclocked version with different fans but sadly those are always louder than the standard model.

Was thinking of ordering this:

And maybe update the bios to 6970s to get the same perfomance. If I dare that is  But otherwise, shouldn't that be a decent option? Id rather go with the 2gb version imo.

Well, ordered this graphics card:

And this lcd monitor:

That's all I can afford for now. I think their quite decent choices.

I have exactly same, sapphire & model number included. It's a good card. Everything runs perfectly smoothly with highest settings. I haven't even bothered doing that bios tweak yet since I haven't had need for that.

Oh hey, and I ordered from Jims PC store too

Although, you should have Win 7 or Vista 64bit which support over 3gb memory, otherwise that 2gb memory which it has might cause some problems with 32bit systems memory address reservation orwhatitwasstuff.

Monitor looks decent too.

That card is quite big though, I had to twist some harddisk placements metals with tongs in back of the casket so it could fit.

Oh cool :3 Yeah I need a Win 7 64. Ill buy it when I have more money. Right now I don't have. Yah, Jimms pc is quite good imo :3 Yeah it's quite big. I have 2 slots free but I hope that it's not too wide/long. The monitor should do the job, seeing that I have one of dem old box or whatever their called lol. Nice to hear that the card is good :3. It dang right better be with that price.

I was there too when I upgraded and spent my whole budget and then after that it has just been pure laziness not getting win 7 yet

It has worked fine with my XP 32bit, though after system upgrade there has been some occasional crashes. I first thought it might be that memory reservation thing, but lately I have noticed my system temperature goes up when crash happens so it might not be related to that graphic card at all since it happens outside of graphic programs too. I think I need more powerful fan to my i7.

Win 7 is needed to run DX11 games too.

Yah, Jimms pc is quite good imo :3 Yeah it's quite big.

It is, I ordered lots of different components with competitive price and it all came in one packet with matkahuolto bus transport and it was just 4€. Should I had bought them from different online shops, transporting fees alone should had raised total cost greatly.

2030004                          bussirahti max 10kg                1  kpl 3.00 eur
2030012                          Posti/Matkahuolto, pakkauskulut    1  kpl 0.90 eur

Nice to hear that the card is good :3. It dang right better be with that price.

You'll love it, I'm sure.

D: Oh dang. Should have ordered via matkahuolto then, I guess. I ordered using posti, using postiennakko. Cost atleast more than 10 euros. And yeah, another reason to get win 7. To run DX11 games and to get that extra 1gb memory usable. Been waiting to get a decent card for awhile after my beloved ATI x800GT dun goofd. I have a replacement Nvidia 8800gt currently until I get the new card.

My biggest woe is that I can't yet run Just Cause 2, since it runs only with Win 7 operating systems

Cursed Win 7 cost about 200€ or more last I checked prices here in Finland. I should try to find cheaper deal before I order it, maybe from foreign markets. Tip me, if you find cheaper price.

In addition to that, another thing I yet must have is SSD drive to have operating system and key files in it, it's going to pwn with its speed!

Indeed. I loved Just Cause 2. Was sad that It requires win 7. And as you said, it ain't cheap. I will try to find a cheap option. 200 is quite much for me. Indeed, SSD would be sweeet.

Well appearantly, their out of that card and they removed it from their lists, meaning that they won't probably get them anymore. But they said that I could change it the "monster" card 6950 which takes 3 slots o_O.

I said alright, Ill test it out. Lets hope it's good  Well, according to reviews, it's beast on overclocking, the cooling is suberb etc, so it should be perfect for me. Although, 3 slots is quite huge.

That should do the trick.

I hardly even ever use several of those PCI slots same time, so unless you have some specialized cards, you probably won't be running out of the space.

Alrighty, after few rages I got it installed. I had to take one of my hdds away so that I had enough power connectors for the card, and the dvd drive ;_; Why? The hdd was so old that it didn't have the sata power connector, unlike my newer one. All of the normal power connectors went to the card and the dvd drive. Anyways, some pics of the box, card , and my old geforce 8800gtx/gt, which I had borrowed from my friend. I had until I got my new card. The difference is quite big:

Sorry for the grainy images.

First contact with modern graphic cards is quite shocking, mine barely got into the box, I had to move the HDD. It's funny when you see the damn card bends due heatsink weight, and won't go further precisely thanks to the rigid structure the heatsink is. They should make a second fake connection for better support, since they take the pci slot below them anyway.

Alrighty, tried overclocking but it seems that I get artifacts when I put the max values. The card can handle them as I have seen reviewers using them too. I think my psu is just too weak. The screen started going on an off, said that it couldn't get a signal + got artifacts. So, these are the stuff I still want to buy so that I'm satisfied with mah comp finally :3:

New psu.
New hdd. 1TB preferably.
Win 7 to get full support on dx10 and dx11. + time to start updating
Few gigs more ram.

Now, I need suggestions for all of those, expect ram and win of course.
