Howdy.
We continue to help our neighbor with her laptop computer. The latest problem is the output of the onboard "speakers".  The output is very faint. If you put your ear right close to the speaker "grill" on the keyboard, you can hear faint sound. I have gone through all of the Windows volume control screens(via Control Panel) and put everything to Maximum Volume. Doesn't help. We hooked up earphones via the earphone port on the laptop and couldn't hear ANYTHING. The blue Fn key and the mute speaker icon key on the keyboard will turn the faint sound off. Pressing this key combination will turn the sound back on. We were wondering about the driver for the sound card. Not sure that this computer has a sound card.

Our neighbor says that she really doesn't need sound BUT we hate to leave this problem hanging unsolved. Ideas, suggestions as to how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

trying running  different game or application to see if the sound works there
make sure there is no 'mute' button anywhere that is turned on
make sure your sound output goes to either your headphone jack or speakers
do windows updates
