B Native Other Blood enhancement tweak v0.5

Users who are viewing this thread

I'm currently not updating this as I don't have the time. I still do provide help and support though

The weird floaty blood in M&B had never worked for me and I had always wondered why no one had ever made an uber gore mod, and I had always looked, but never found even a minor mod to do with blood.
So I looked into to the many, many helpful topics on how to mod, downloaded the module system, and messed with the particle settings and textures for the better part of a week. I've come to realize that you cant do much with the particle settings in the way of making more particles, therefore, there cant be more blood.
Sucks...

BUT!

I will muck about with it some more and try to make some better blood settings.
The best I have done now is a combination of messing with the velocity+turbulence+alpha+scale
and the first two tweaks are a bit cartoony and childish, but the later tweaks are more realistic... to a certain point.

I recommend using Tweak4, as its the nicest so far

Compatible with: Mount and Blade Warband 1.13x, limited compatibility with Mount&Blade 1.011
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Screenshots: of Blood tweak1: Tweak1...splashy chunks 2 the right
Tweak1 is chunky, cartoony and sprays to the left of the attacker.

Screenshots: of Blood tweak2: Tweak2...Dark, splashy, n' thick
Looks better in motion  I put this in as an example of the two blood textures. I'm bashing him with a mace in First person mode... hes not being shot by the archer, or the blood would spurt toward the archer.

Tweak2 is a bit nicer, the blood is lighter (physically) and is cascades a bit as it drops. It is much darker, and sprays towards,up a bit, and slightly to the left of the attacker. Close combat looks quite fetching, and ranged attacks have a nice squirting effect.

Screenshots: of Blood tweak3: Tweak3...Open Artery

Tweak 3 is more realistic, but a bit minimal. It features a stream of blood droplets squirting into the air.
This one isn't gory enough for me....

Screenshots: of Blood tweak4: Tweak4...Open artery+
Tweak4 is Tweak3, but with more blood!.
Screenshots: of Blood tweak5: Tweak5...Open artery++
Tweak5 also is Tweak3, but with even more blood!.

Screenshots: of Blood tweak6: Tweak6...Let off some steam, Bennett
Tweak6 is a joke... A massive plume of blood shoots into the air, and then descends.

Screenshots: of Blood tweak7: Tweak7...Part the red, see?
Tweak7 is also joke... 2 massive plumes of blood jet to the sides in a wave.

Info on module_particle_systems.py + .TXT files
This spoiler contains some of my findings about the workings of the module_particle_systems.py
-This help Taken from the module_particle_systems.py-

####################################################################################################################
#  Each particle system contains the following fields:

#  1) Particle system id (string): used for referencing particle systems in other files.
#    The prefix psys_ is automatically added before each particle system id.
#  2) Particle system flags (int). See header_particle_systems.py for a list of available flags
#  3) mesh-name.
####
#  4) Num particles per second:    Number of particles emitted per second.
#  5) Particle Life:    Each particle lives this long (in seconds).
#  6) Damping:          How much particle's speed is lost due to friction.
#  7) Gravity strength: Effect of gravity. (Negative values make the particles float upwards.)
#  8 ) Turbulance size:  Size of random turbulance (in meters)
#  9) Turbulance strength: How much a particle is affected by turbulance.
####
# 10,11) Alpha keys :    Each attribute is controlled by two keys and
# 12,13) Red keys  :    each key has two fields: (time, magnitude)
# 14,15) Green keys :    For example scale key (0.3,0.6) means
# 16,17) Blue keys  :    scale of each particle will be 0.6 at the
# 18,19) Scale keys :    time 0.3 (where time=0 means creation and time=1 means end of the particle)
#
# The magnitudes are interpolated in between the two keys and remain constant beyond the keys.
# Except the alpha always starts from 0 at time 0.
#### NEGITIVE NUMBERS REVERSE DIRECITON (1,1,1) or (-1,-1,-1) for #example
# 20) Emit Box Size :  The dimension of the box particles are emitted from.
# 21) Emit velocity :  Particles are initially shot with this velocity.
# 22) Emit dir randomness
# 23) Particle rotation speed: Particles start to rotate with this (angular) speed (degrees per second).
# 24) Particle rotation damping: How quickly particles stop their rotation

game_blood:  the name of the particle system... don't modify this, unless you plan on modifying a lot of other stuff
psf_billboard_3d |psf_randomize_size|psf_randomize_rotation: Add particle variances here (most are self explanatory)
"prt_mesh_blood_1", : This is the particle mesh being used... prt_mesh_blood_1 is a small droplet
prt_mesh_blood_2 is a larger texture of a splatter...
500: The amount of particles per second, seems to be hard coded as 1 particle per second is the same as 20000 pps....
0.65: Particle life in seconds....
3: how much friction there is
0.5: how much gravity there is
1: Size of random turbulance (in game meters)
0: How hard the particles are pulled (upward, and toward moving objects it seems)

Compatibility with original/vanilla M&B: Its best to use the cut and paste method. (cutting the tweak text from the Raw text section, and pasting into M&B particle_systems.txt over the applicable text) I have found some glitches, like blood being too dark with some tweaks. You might be able to remedy this by using the original M&B textures. If the textures seem to bright, then use the modified textures. If you paste the .zip files particle_systems.txt over M&B's respective text file, it will work, but some things will be weird. (thanks to Flanged who first reported those oddities). Admittedly it makes 1886 (one of my favorite original M&B mods) a bit sweeter when you smack a guy in the head with a good chunk of lead, and he lets off some pressure.
Anyone is free to use any tweak in their mod's, for personal or public use, no need to ask my permission!

This is really nice - I never liked the "bright" blood under DX 9 either.  I prefer using it without the custom particle_system.text, which makes the blood globs a bit too big for my tastes, but it's great that it works fine both ways, and just feels a lot gorier.  The directions the blood flies in are perfect too.

Does it effect any other particles, though?  While using it I shot one of my exploding barrels, and rather than getting the flame and smoke I set it to produce, there was a massive ball of white smoke... it was pretty cool, actually, and I wouldn't mind keeping it that way if I could!

Does changing the blood multiplier in module_ini have any effect on the size of the blood particles?

Hmmm... I might have mucked with some other particles, forgot about it and compiled it a bunch... or the module system has a bug that changes stuff. If you would get a bug from the particle_systems.txt... its either my fault or the module systems, in which case I've buggerd your particle_systems.txt.... So I will post a Warband v1.132 vanilla particle_systems.txt to fix this problem, or you can use the one from your native folder... I will pull the download for now and make sure its fixed...
If you are copying and pasting from the posted blood tweak text in this thread, It should not cause a problem...
I did not know there was a blood multiplier in module_ini for warband! I will have a look see.
( if you are using the original Mount and Blade, I haven't look at it for compatibility yet.

@Víkingr... video is too time consuming for now, sorry!

EDIT......

Unless I missed it  I don't see anything to do with blood in the Warband module.ini

hmm... i played one time a mod for vanilla called dwarfs and giants or something like that and there was really much blood.... maybe you could ask the creator how he got that much blood

EDIT: http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=1593  <-- this one

For the original M&B you could adjust the particle amount in module.ini and make the blood spray like crazy. If thats what you meant by vanilla....

New tweak up soon!

EDIT......

Unless I missed it  I don't see anything to do with blood in the Warband module.ini

I was using it under 1.011, it never occurred to me it was a Warband exclusive - it works fine in the older version too.  I haven't tried changing my blood multiplier in the .ini to test if it makes any difference yet, but there's no need to post a clean particles text, I backed mine up before replacing it.

There was no bug as such, just it seemed the smoke effect for my barrel had changed - it looked better than the way I had it set up already.   Maybe it was just because the Warband and 1.011 particles texts are different.

It's a great bit of modding - I always wondered why no one did anything with the blood as well.

Thank you very much!!! I will double check compatibility with old M&B to be sure, but for now I will assume its compatible.

And thank you everyone else for the positive feedback. I hope I can have a good variety of blood tweaks to please most people.

EDIT:
Not Warband exclusive. thanks again flanged for making me look into good ol' M&B compatibility ahead of scedule

Does the download have all the tweaks inside? o instead of copying and pasting both I can just download and extract the particles system .txt from the download and I will have both tweaks?

The .zip contains both tweaks (and will always contain all available tweaks), and you just alternate them as necessary.

edit....
I changed the download text to be a bit more concise. Thanks for pointing that out!

double post for a reason:
Good news everyone!
0006yq0k

I've figured out how to make massive amounts of blood
It looks as dumb as a bag of rocks, but it is also halarious... that stuff coming soon...
I've also had success with making blood act a bit more realistic... one new tweak out now, and more later..
And thanks to Janus for moving me to the big kids area! yay!

hey, i put the textures in the textures file of a mod i want it in. Then put in the aprticle system but it did nothing? it's still the same? can you give me some steps on what to do? thanks

Sounds like you did it right to me, maybe the change isn't noticeable...hmmm...

The only other thing I can think of is you didn't select the mod from the list of mods in your Warband launcher and therefore you are still running native.

If you don't know what the warband launcher is:

here's the info on how to make the changes
Step 1) put the textures in your modules texture folder
Step 2) Copy the tweak particle_systems.txt you want to use, and paste it in your module folder. It should prompt you to overwrite the modules existing particle_systems.txt
Step 3) Make sure you select your mod in the warband launcher, and play!

EDIT------------
I put a help file under the download spoiler... click its spoiler so view the jpeg.
