When did you start your own Kingdom..............
« on: March 24, 2009, 07:24:57 PM »
Hi guys,

I've been playing L&R for a while now and I'm really enjoying it. I have around 40,000 denars and can field an army of fifty men. I was a vassal of the swadians for a very short period of time and decided to go it alone but I'm finding it hard to find a suitable place to start plus I don't have enough men or money to take a castle and hold it for more than a couple of days.

When have people playing this mod generally struck out on there own?

Regards.

Well, with 50 men, you should be able to take a castle.  Problem is, you also need to keep it, meaning placing enough troops in there to prevent some other lord from just waltzing in.  Naturally, if 5-6 lords decide to attack, there's not much you can do...

40,000 denars is actually not a whole lot of money.  You should stick to winning some tournaments (~40,000 denars each time), being a merchant, or completing quests while increasing your army size before trying to build your own kingdom.  I'm on day 100, still a vassal of Rhodoks (!), with 100k denars and 72 troops.  I have a castle (safe for now) and 2 villages.  I don't expect to leave the Rodoks until at least day 200, I imagine.

Playing at normal difficulty., and took my first castle, as a Rhodok, around day 75.

That's what happened to me when i played first time , i took Harringoth castle from Vaegirs around turn 60, but then 6 Rhodock Lords came to siege me(i was in middle of Swadian territory). Siege battle was 100 of mine against almost 700 Rhodocks. Several waves later there was like 5-8 of my men left standing and no enemies. Managed to capture 4 of their Lords in the end, but not the King .

I never had such epic encounter in any games i have played before in my life. :D

Needless to say that they hate with passion right now (-98 in faction standing).

Started another campaign after , because i kinda figured that i need to play slower in order to sustain sieges much easier. After 50 days i am already at 200000+ denars and 60 troops while only lvl 9.

I took Radoghir around day 200, using 70 troops plus a patrol on 135% difficulty. Fully expect the owning faction to throw a full king warparty on you after you do it. I had a little over 100,000 total on money at the time. You're going to want to use enough troops to take it and quickly get a whole lot more so you can knock them right off you.

If you still have some troops left, I would suggest you immediately recruit your first vassal and bring them with you to attack a second holding. That way you get a stronger foothold while they're still recruiting a replacement army to attack you again.

I play with all settings on the hardest (except for blocking) battlesize at 200 and realistic saving.
I have conquered 2 castles at day 50 I think it is right now, but I gave those to the Rhodoks. I have an army of 110 very good units.

Naturally, if 5-6 lords decide to attack, there's not much you can do...

It's really important to have your troops organized in the sieges, as well as it's important to guard your archers, so they can fire on people as they go up the ladders.

I fought a battle as Rhodoks, versus Nords, and it was about 150 to 600, and it was pretty hard, we only lost about 50 men though, so it was worth it.

Took Wercheg on day 17-19 (before 20), about 70 men. Had 6 hp and 0 soldiers left at the end of it.

Had player damage set to half, and normal AI and speed.
