I've created a Gondorian- style (not perfect of course) military, and My nation is based from the settlement Dantsic. It is called Dantsica. Creative, right?

Female recruits I turned into males, and they start at the bottom of the tree, the Dantsic Youth. (I was able to convice myself that the women died in childbirth and spawned the "youth" that comprises this portion of the troop tree )

(click to show/hide)

Male Recruits are the second phase of the troop tree, The Dantsic Footmen.

(click to show/hide)

Footmen can go one of two ways:

Dantsic Warriors, who are similar to the basic Gondorian footsoldiers.

(click to show/hide)

OR

Dantsic Bowmen, similar to basic Gondorian archers.

(click to show/hide)

Bowmen upgrade only once, to the Dantsic Deathbows.

(click to show/hide)

Warriors can be upgraded to:

Veteran Dantsic Warriors

(click to show/hide)

OR

Dantsic Knights

(click to show/hide)

Veteran Warriors have one more upgrade:

Royal Dantsic Guards

(click to show/hide)

Holy crap

Your men are either all renowned knights or you are very wealthy, because almost all of your troops have plate.

i see nice troop tree, but i think archers should wear a lil more leather, and that troop tree would crush anyone..
So its overpowerd(as i see of armor :P)

Nice troop tree, but either your faction has 20,000,000,000 denars to spare (give or take a few 10,000 denars) or a massive empire consisting of most of the known world at that time full of high population and prosperous towns, you'll either get bankrupt easily or only recruit a few of the troops if the wages & recruiting fees took into account of your troops' equipment.....

My troop tree doesn't even have full plate in it. I was looking for a breastplate in the OSP packs to give to my high-rankers.

yeah to kinda balance things out I made it so It takes a VERY long time to level up from footman.  So Im on day 100 and I have 50 footmen and like ten higher tier than that. And Its not much against Custow's 7 billion man army (Who always seem to attack me after a new nation rises)

Vaegir (placeholder name) Faction

Designed this as a faction that engages in guerilla-type warfare. Fast moving, lightly armored troops for the most part with a line split between professional soldiers and guerilla fighters:

I'm having a bit of problem with my custom troops. I moddify them, then i update and save and so on and so on... However, when I start the mod (new game) they simply don't show up. Instead my custom culture settlement recieves bodyguards and champions. I added all the new troops to faction 13. I wonder if anyone could help? The code is in the spoiler.

you have to start a new game.
try that first , then worry about your code  :o

I put my custom troops in the "1 - Commoners" Group, where wicked's base custom troops are at.

Finally done it, and it is working!  :) Around 7 hours of hard work. The troop tree is meant to be long, and to have high xp requirements before upgrading. It also is a pain in the *** in terms of cost. However, if you manage to keep your units alive long enough your army will get unstoppable.
The tree includes a loose recreation of a medieval army. It begins with leather (even shirts and robes) and ends up with heavy plate.
Sorry for the odd scheme. It is just quite complicated.

boy ==> youngling  ========> infantryman ============> veteran ==> spearman ==> pikeman
                  |                                       |                                             |
rider ==> skirmisher          scout ==> ranger                  centurion
                 |                |                       |              |                            |
cavalryman  mounted ranger    archer   stone guard               paladine
                 |                                         |
knight ==> knight of old         marksman

girl ==> refugee ==> lady at arms ==> lady of war ==> battle sister ==> stone guard
                                       |
                                  huntress ==> wanderer ==> assassin

Code - the first two paragraphs replace the shell troops (trp_custom_recruit and trp_f_custom_recruit) , and all the other info goes to the end of the document:

(click to show/hide)

Boy: When you are forced to fight, you do. However, those lads are better at dying. Shirt, knife
(click to show/hide)
Youngling: With the coming of age the boys start prepairing for war. Leather, spears, swords
(click to show/hide)
Infantryman: The typical frontline soldier, it is medium/light infantryman.
(click to show/hide)
Veteran: This hardened dog of war knows no retreat. Mail armour.
(click to show/hide)
Centurion: The vicious halebard of the heavy shock trooper is good vs. both cavalry and infantry. (the halebard model is crappy, btw...)
(click to show/hide)
Paladine: This holy warrior wields blessed warhammers, maces, and rarely - swords. His only shield is his faith.
(click to show/hide)
Pikeman: No horse would dare charge into a pikerwall. (well, this doesn't really apply for M&B horses, but...)
(click to show/hide)
Scout: Light troopers able to scout on the enemy and constantly annoy him whit their skirmishes.
(click to show/hide)
Archer: As scouts get more skilled, they start getting incorporated into the main battle force.
(click to show/hide)
Marksman: The most elite archers recieve mail armours and can double as medium infantry. They are also one of the finest ranged troopers.
(click to show/hide)
Ranger: Some scouts prefer to get better in stalking, not in archery. So, they can also become rangers.
(click to show/hide)
Stone guard (male): The best rangers become stone guard - ruthless warriors clad in mail, expert bowmen and a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
(click to show/hide)
Rider: While most younglings become infantrymen, some of them perfer to live on the saddle:
(click to show/hide)
Skirmisher: A constant annoyance to the enemy, the skirmisher are a valuable asset.
(click to show/hide)
Mounted ranger: Rangers typically fight on foot. However, when need is upon them, they may take to the field in heavier than normal armour and riding a powerfull hunter.
(click to show/hide)
Knight: Cavalrymen that show themselves as valorous and skilfull men join the ranks of the knights - the iron fist of the (heroname)'s empire.
(click to show/hide)
Knight of old: A warrior coming from the legends, the knight of old is the one and only unit that can match the paladines.
(click to show/hide)
Girl: Even for the girls, life is not easy. And when they are in perill, ususally no valorous knight shows up magically, so they must be able to defend their life
(click to show/hide)
Refugee: The life of a woman tocuhed by war is hard. Those women are forced to fight and in time get more skilled:
(click to show/hide)
Lady at arms: And when finallythe refugees start feeling they just had enough, they take up arms and join the military.
(click to show/hide)
Battle sister: When a woman fights on equal terms with the men, it soon gains renown and recieves the titel of battle sister:
(click to show/hide)
Stone guard (female): The stone guards don't care for the sex of the fighters. They take only the best in their ranks. And those girls are the best.
(click to show/hide)
Huntress: Refugees that don't want to take up the path of war, but are still quite skilled retreat to the tranquill forests, where they can live by the bow quite easily. However, peril doesn't abbandon them so easily... (the odd thing about those galls is that they don't always recieve bows, no matter what I do, so don't be too surprised if you see a bowless huntress)
(click to show/hide)
Wanderer: Huntresses driven from their havens become wanderers. During their travels they realise one fact...
(click to show/hide)
Assassin: ...that if you take a life of one man to save the life of a thousand, this is not a crime. This is mercy.
(click to show/hide)

Please, give some feedback!

I've fixed a problem or two in my trrop tree. Male stone guards now have guaranteed full armour (helmet, armour, gloves, boots) and bows. Female wanderers and huntressess now have guaranteed ranged. Also, I should note that even when assassins and wanderers don't have bows, they still may have ranged. I have given them some throwing daggers. However, they don't seem to use them properly, so I may change them. Now for the code.
Open troops.txt and replace the "nothin" and "nothing" troop paragraphs with this:
(click to show/hide)

And add this to the end of the document:
(click to show/hide)

Don't forget that there should be a free line between every troop.

Also, some new screenies. Since the other ones were quite generic:

(click to show/hide)

And I hate being pushy, but give some feedback and avice. I am not sure whether the troop tree is too overpowered (should be fixed by costs/long time required to lvl up), or too long, or if they are illogical.

And maybe a bit odd question: Is anyone using some other people's troop tree?

I think your troop tree is rather well-balanced...
I also only use my own troop tree.

Well, I was trying to get a kind of viking/european feel for my faction. My tree is pretty straight forward, focusing on archers and cavalry to do the job. Men and women get treated equally in training and equipment.

If someone can try this army out and tell me if it's balanced or not, I'd be much obliged. School's killin' me here.

(click to show/hide)

Median Recruit:
(click to show/hide)

I'm too lazy to do the rest, anyways.

Basically, the recruit gets an advantage over other recruits because he/she's slightly more skilled and has better equipment, but has more training to undergo until he/she's next upgrade is reached. Short swords, spiked maces, etc. Essentially, a melle Swadian Militia with more power but no ranged capabilities and no shield.

The archers move up from Short Bow > Long Bow > War Bow, and from Arrows > Barbed Arrows > Bodkin Arrows. Their armor goes from just slightly above the recruits' (Padded cloth, padded leather) to about a regular lvl1 footsoldier's to light chainmail.

Footsoldiers have padded leather, ragged outfits, etc., as well as lower-quality shields and heavier, better swords and weapons than the recruit. The cavalrymen/women have light chainmail and spears, light lances, swords, medium quality shields, and hunter horses. The knights have plate armor, heavy chainmail; and great swords, heavy lances, bastard swords, and high-quality shields. They ride warhorses.

The Corporals and sergreants are heavy infantry focusing on polearms (Specifically pikes, mixed with some poleaxes and such) as well as 2h weapons and only a few 1h weapons with shields. Coat of plates, heavy mail, heavy helmets etc.

Code:
(click to show/hide)
Perfect for someone who doesn't want too get too in depth with soldiers but wants a force that is able to fight well.
