Some great ideas in this mod and well-implemented too, shame it's kind of just left dangling. It really doesn't
like Windows 7 64bit either, which is odd as once I used M&B enhanced and the large address patch TLD *never*
crashes even with battlesize 600+. I think the TLD team put a lot of effort into performance though, and converting
.ogg to .wav was one of the things they did. I wonder if there's an issue with textures\models and\or scripts with this one
as well, as I'm not convinced my problems are down to sound (I turned it off and they still happen). Hopefully Rosha
will come back to carry on work or at least release the source at some point, in the meantime I might have a go at that
.ogg conversion and change sounds.txt and music.txt...
'ave it...

Yeah sorry, that made sense when I posted it but I can see how it's not clear...

Basically, I've been playing both The Wedding Dance and The Last Days recently. Both brilliant mods, but somehow The Wedding Dance slipped my notice until the last couple of weeks, whereas I've known about and played The Last Days since the early days of the mod. Anyway, I have Windows 7 64 bit and initially got plenty of errors playing The Last Days when the new version was first released at the start of November. Someone (Barf I think) suggested applying a patch to make the M&B executable large address aware (ie can use more than 2Gb memory). This fixed *all* crashes for me with The Last Days - could play for hours at battlesize 500, unlimited corpses and ragdolls, full graphical settings, with no problem. While the TLD team were trying to work out what the problems with the crashing on people's machines were, I think they had investigated many other issues as well. One thing they did do was convert all their sound and music to .wav files instead of .ogg (seem to remember someone saying .ogg could cause a problem). I was wondering if this would be a good idea for The Wedding Dance too - converting the files would be simple enough and then it's a case of amending the sounds.txt and music.txt files. I'm guessing the issues with The Wedding Dance *are* either sound-related or textures\models as script problems generally throw errors in game (in my experience) whereas I get CTDs. Reading through the posts in this topic as well as the stuff at the other board (exilian ?) it seems that noone quite got to the bottom of all the problems. I'm really enjoying playing The Wedding Dance but the CTDs are coming thick and fast now and nothing I try seems to make a lot of difference (apart from using Windows XP which helps somewhat but is a step back for me). As The Last Days works so well, I'm assuming that The Wedding Dance is fixable as the problem is presumably not an M&B engine problem (which wouldn't be fixable)...

Anyway, that became a bit of a ramble, which I was trying to avoid yesterday. If I get some time and the inclination I'll have a play around with the sounds\music and report back if it helps...
'ave it...

Converting the sounds to .wav is very likely to improve performance, as you expect. Several mods (both MB and Warband) I know went from "frequent crashes" to "very few crashes" just by converting the sound files.

Ever thought of you moving this mod into Warband  as well it looks very good. But many more would download it in the Warband as it looks very good and enjoyable.

The mod maker is long gone... but spiritual successors with their mods may still show up. ;)
