SinisterMorality:
Space Rangers 2 kicks ass.

Like M&B it:
1. is quite "free-form" in gameplay
2. could easily but mistaken for a poor game by a first time player if they did not play enough hours to understand the game
3. has a simple but good RPG aspect

This game is a multi-genre game that has RPG, turn based strategy, logic puzzles, text-based games, etc.
The variety is great and each different part of the game is well done. Certain genres of gameplay can be avoided by not accepting missions of that type, but you cannot avoid the main part of the game which is a turn-based navigation and combat system. The RPG element of the game is nice because the various weapons and equipment you may buy, find or take are hugely varied and randomized. Also good is that your character's class is an important and meaningful choice and gaining levels and deciding what skills to improve is also very important. The planetary robot turn-based strategy is fun too and allows you to pilot one of the robots adding an FPS element to the game.

Great game all around. Buy it.

okiN:
Well, I've got it, and although I was apprehensive about installing it because it comes with StarForce, it hasn't fucked up my computer so far. I recommend it to all foolhardy types.

SinisterMorality:
I bought it online and this version does NOT have Starforce.

I don't think I would have bought if it did.

okiN:
That would definitely be a better alternative for people considering a purchase, then. For the record, though, I haven't been experiencing any of the problems that are commonly said to be associated with StarForce. I'm not sure if it's doing something nasty behind the scenes, but it's been on my computer for a few months now and nothing has happened.

Archonsod:
The version of Starforce included on the SR2 retail release is the later, stable version which so far hasn't had any problems reported. (well, apart from people using virtual drives, but you'll get that from any form of copy protection).

Heard there were issues with the Direct 2 Drive version though, something to do with it only being available in certain regions or similar.
