Equipment References
« on: November 19, 2008, 07:37:19 pm »
I don't mind working on new armors and weapons at all. My problem is finding more references, I ran dry on them. Feel free to post any good reference that you'd like to see implemented. No fantasy, please, just viable reconstructions.

Well, I would like to see some more variation in the helmets and breastplates :).  Since hoplites provided their own gear they were rarely uniform.

Also, do you have the realistic helmets skinned?  Why not use both? :D

Well, I actually ran off to find references for what I mentioned above but I think you've done it for me.

I can't find any reference to the Thespians actually participating in the conflict, only mentions of their territory.  Anybody have a page # for me?

Great post, EmjeR.

I've considered the boeotian shield in the past, but since those reconstructions would represent a thespian hoplite from the thermopylae, I figured some people would complain about an outdated shield. Every time I see something like that, I feel like implementing them.

Nice shield devices, I'll work on the historically accurate ones for the alpha.

Keep them coming.

This picture seems instresting... i like all of what the guy is wearing.... there layouts on there armor tended to be light not heavy... so they can move around the battlefield quicker

The hoplite armor was 22-27 kilos I think.  Very heavy.  I'm not even sure Medieval plate armor weighed much more than that (I know it weighed less than what modern soldiers carry).

Yeah just looked it up in one of Karen Armstrong's books.  FULL plate armor made of steel was actually up to 15 pounds lighter than what the hoplites wore.

Some Athenian shield designs:

I've searched my imagebank and packed everything I have on Scythians. There might be some earlier and later ones, but the look wouldn't have changed much. (ehm...the upload is slow so I'll edit this post when it's done. It's only 8 MB rar though :D)

Don't make me get all Merlkir on your ass.

Well, Lynores, I don't see why you shouldn't include "outdated" shields into a mod, unless the new shields are better AND cheaper.

disclaimer: didn't see scyths in game yet (bandwidth :() so i mostly know how they look like in the mod from screenshots. so anyway here go my 5 cent.

scyth noble warrior circa IV b.c..
the most interested details here:
iron scale mail. at least nobles should have them instead of bronze ones. it's iron age, come on.
bronze greek style helm and greaves. i guess in V b.c. they only started to be popular among scyths so a lot of scale helms should also be present.

edit: oh! and any scyth warrior-ladies to be expected? this is a must! (hurry, whip up some chick-troops before Cassandra showed up  :D)
