i have double cliked on my desktop shortcut and have tried several other ways of opening mount&blade but it just wont load up ?

Have you moved the folder after installing? Have you checked the taskbar (I believe that's what it's called)?

Did this problem just start occuring after sucessfully running the game in the past?  Or is this the first time you've tried playing and have never been able to get it to run?
