What is Persistent Sagas?

Download link : http://persistent-sagas.com/downloads/PS_1.0.zip

Persistent Sagas is a mod for mount and blade warband similar to persistent world. The time is set at the start of the viking age. we aim to create a certain hardship, giving you nearly nothing at the start, leaving all options open for you to develop your own wealth and rank within fixed, historically correct factions (No more COOKIEMONSTER LANNIMARTELLS KINGPIRE).

You will be able to grow from serf to lord, over a period of hard work and write your own history. Fighting will be a privilege because weapons are expensive tools and thus reserved for those who are worthy. Classes themselves will cost you a small fortune in order to make you think twice before you make a choice in your Saga. You will have to work for personal gain, yet also for communal gain, because the better your faction gets, the better you get. Roleplay will not be enforced by rules, but in a way by hardship of the mod.
Serfs will be able to obtain lower class gear, tools and weapons in order to defend their turf while they grow.

Will you fall into the unknown or become part of the saga?

We will keep working on the mod

How much do we let the mod be inspired by history channels "Vikings" :
Wether you agree with it or not, obviously many future players of this mod will have watched and probably liked the history channel tv show "Vikings".
We thought it would be a fun idea to immerse as much as we can from that world into our own, as long as it's not to much of a penalty on the historic accuracy.

We would like to say thank you to the following people for their contributions and content they allowed us to use.

CHUR (For making Calradia in Darkness)
The Brytenwalda Team (For being so generous and let us use many useful things from their mod)
Vornne (For making the beauty that is Persistent World)
Wardruna (For their beautiful collection of norse music)

A special thank you to S0mebody, Danyele and Vikingr!

S0mebody has been a great help on many aspects of this project, and we could not have done this without his help.

Danyele, for without his help, the mod would not yet have seen the light of day.

Vikingr, for allowing us to use numerous resources. If you enjoy the Anglo-Saxon/Norse setting of this mod, but would like to experience a beautiful,
graphically enhanced and solely combat-focused mod, check them out

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, ALL RULES AND BALANCE/ECONOMY ARE BOUND TO CHANGE IN THE COMING WEEKS AFTER RELEASE.
We have a vision, but what doesn't work, simply needs to change.
Bare with us.

I don't understand why weapons would cost a ton? Wasn't it extremely cheap to build an ax that is both useful in combat and for wood-chopping?

They won't cost a ton, but we don't want people running around in the best avaiable class/gear 20 minutes after joining the server, also to make it less easy to trollrandom.

It would make it easier for stronger players to prevent new players to join in and progress. Unless people loot a weapon they can be KoS or spawn harassed by players with combat classes

Vikings won't ride horses in this mod, and there will be server rules ofcourse.
Trying to enforce those rules will be a challange like on any other server.

Ps: It's not as bad as the description might make you think.

Just make a faction called "Town Watch", recruit upstanding citizens, have them patrol around the map looking for any lolligagging.
I think the mod should strive to make the mod support as much as a "non-admin", "non-watch" environment setting as possible.

Perhaps, it should be a last resort, I don't suppose any men into vikings would provide any trouble.

Impossible with warband mechanics.

"As much as possible"
Didn't say completely.
There's a number of measures, PF utilised some.

I expect the stronger players to indeed become more cocky as they gain power. It is a normal reaction, once you are stronger than others, you have a more prominent position. That is why you need to join one of the fixed factions as new player ! You will have to protection of your lord, who ought to be one of the stronger players himself. The prominent members of your factions are not supposed to be lolgagging you, it wouldn't be in the benefit of their village.

I think that even crossing the border of another faction ( withouth any good reason ) as well-armed warrior would be a grave offense and should be punished by the ruling lord of that area. In PW we see knights of all different factions going in and out a castle, which is an encouraging factor for lolgagging and less serious roleplaying/playing. ( Other factions that start robbing your chests, serfs, knights,... ) The fact that classes are rather expensive, the excuse of entering a castle with the words ' I want to join ' shouldn't apply so much.

I am a bit concerned for the sake of the poor serfs when a viking starts to raid when there are no strong warriors around, I will discuss this with the dev team.

Also the people that will play during the closed beta will be made clear which are the morale rules of behaviour ( not that we can enforce them all ) in the mod, and we hope that they teach those to new-players who join during the open versions. So the second generation of players should understand those same rules, and teach them to all who follow. Some guides on the forum should also strengthen this. ( Not everyone reads those, but I am thinking about something that might encourage people to actually read and understand them. )

It all sounds plausible in ' theory ', I know that. I am sure the admin team will do his best to work it out in reality.
