A siege problem
« on: July 19, 2012, 01:44:33 AM »
After playing for about an hour on siege as artillery crew with a few friends on TS, apart from being bothered by other players who 'claim' our artillery pieces if we're not fast enough to place the ammo or reload it faster than they do, we we're being shouted at by other players for 'not breaching enough'. This was strange to us, as we had breached three outer and two inner walls fully. On closer inspection - when we charged at the two minute mark - we found that the sappers of the defending team had placed dirt mounds at odd angles so that our team-mates could not walk through the breach.

Now the only way to destroy these things - from my knowledge - is to blow them up with sapper explosives, but let's face it, the odds of getting a sapper to the breach, have him place and build the box and then ignite it are too low. On some maps it's practically glitching anyway, because even if they align the mound with the wall the angle tends to be too steep to walk over it.

Surely something can - and has to be - done about this. I mean it's hard enough for the attackers to win at siege anyway without this bullshit. If it we're real life I could have physically pulled the mound down with my hands, but alas, melee weapons do no damage to such things.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so what's your view on the matter?
and who's the humorless jackass that keeps on reporting my screenshots as spam?
the instructions on the first page says post screenshots that you particularly like, find humorous or want to brag about.
my high score and stat page screenshots fits all the criteria.

Vince will be making mounds easier to destroy. The shovel will have an extra mode on it and we might see bayonets do something.

As previously said, you will be able to un-dig mounds with a shovel in the next patch.

the problem me and my friends have on siege is that when we try and use a cannon or cannons, other people just come up and do 1 of 3 things

1) try and use our cannon
2) stand in front of cannon/ troll us
3) try and limber our cannon and move it

i don't understand why people do this, my regiment normally has at least 2 men to a cannon, sometimes 3 as the 3rd mine acts as a guard against trolls, yet people still come along, not giving a shit, and try and use our cannon. it happens so often that we rarely do public siege anymore

Yea, Sappers blocking doors with dirt mounds is a real problem along with this.  :x

I think crayon is right in saying cannonballs destory the earthworks. However, you shouldn't be getting berated at all by infantry because if they had done their job and charged in as soon as the breach was made then the breaches could not have been barricaded in the first place. If people dither or camp until the last few minutes they don't have the right to moan about arty. I sympathise with anyone who goes arty because you get slated for anything less than excellent first time shooting and are vulnerable to trolls more than any other class.

Glad to hear about the shovel Refleax.
