I'll agree with that. I remember the first time that I faced a sword with a bayonet. I got utterly destroyed, and my first impression was probably that the sword was too easy to use. But, after fighting swords more often, I came to realize that it is quite easy to counter swords.
Something that tends to happen in NW is that it is drilled into your head that there are usually only two directions you have to block, since you fight against bayonets most of the time. So, when people encounter a sword, they panic and die.
Playing a lot of NW can get you great at blocking bayonets, but if you want to be able to block everything, you almost have to play native. I would suggest playing cRPG as a two handed character. You won't be able to use a shield, so after a week or so of blocking with a two handed sword, you should have some pretty good reflexes.
I don't think anyone should have the right to complain about this stuff unless they put enough time into the game to become quite good. I consider myself like barely above average in melee, so I don't moan about anything being overpowered.
