Okay, so I want to play as a character with dark skin.

Listen, i tried doing this with all the different ethnic groups, but I was never able to make a character with anything other than a really light tan. I know this is Britain and all, but really how you gonna take away the ability to make a dark skinned character. Especially for the Romans. There were plenty of dark skinned Roman troops, and at least one had to have stayed in Britain. Or maybe a North African trader, there were plenty of those that traded with the Isles. That's enough justification.

And hell, do you need justification? It's an RPG. I should be able to be as dark as midnight if I want. I don't get why I have to have light skin.

The only reason I care is because I'm forced to play white characters in literally every other game, and I'm kind of tired of that. I want to rep the chocolate skin my characters are supposed to have. You know what I mean?

There were black romans in Britain at one point. So it's not all that absurd for me to want the option, I just don't know how to go from "hey I want this" to "Yes i have it".

As far as I know you can't be dark as midnight even in Native.

Bernard Cornwell's Britain series had a black Numidian commander called Sagramore (ex-Roman cavalry) who scared the shit out of the Saxons because they thought he was a devil, so there's precedent

Seriously though, you could probably just copy a skin texture over from Native

You have option of open a dds file for face textures in textures folder and change it to dark.

Other option is copy dark skin texture in native and paste/overwritte it in brytenwalda\textures folder.

Sagramor isnt historical. I think that in VII century it is improbable have dark skins persons. Roman Empire dont exist yet, and commerce was more local o with people more nearby (franks, jutes, etc...)

However, you have reason, this is a game and a rpg. If players demmand it...

Hang on, I managed to find and copy the texture but it's not popping up as an option. I can't really find an easy guide to figure this out.

Am I missing a step here aside from simple copy+paste?

You need meet dark skin texture in native textures patch (manface_african.dds)
Then, you can rename it to manface_midage.dds and paste it in brytenwalda\textures folder

If the Roman Legions brought 'Black' people with them to Britain, their numbers would have been so minute that they would have had near enough no impact. If you want to play as a 'Black' character fine, but the link you included is crude.

Why would you read the comments? That's like, the first thing you're not supposed to do. 2nd, that forum has nothing to do with anything. I was using the information in that original post. It's the first thing i saw when I did my google search.

Actually... the article is quite a bit of bull. Yes, Severus Alexander was form Northern Africa, which was at the time inhabited by descendants from the Phoenicians, a people from the Eastern Mediteranean. Their appearance didn't differ much from the Romans.

Wether the name of Severus' mother was derived from the Arabian word for black, or from the word Dominia, is another discussion.

But to say that Severus was, with al due respect, black, is far from the truth. Even Philippus Arabs, who was from Arabian descent, wasn't.

But that's another discussion, and don't let that stop you from playing the game the way you want, with the character you want.

find a mod set in africa. Black people in Europe pre ww2 has been exaggerated and peddled  by a few black nationalists and liberals to give the impression diversity was always here. Not to meniton that the 'blackamoors' were expelled (probably not even 'black')by Elizabeth.
