NW < MM
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:52:42 AM »
I don't know if there has been a thread about the comparison of opinions on MM v.s NW, and I'm too lazy to find out. So regardless of if there was a thread, here's what I have to say:

I'm quite disappointed with NW. Not just because of the changed melee, but just it seems that NW strayed too far from MM and instead of polishing and perfecting MM, they created a different game. This game, while many enjoy it greatly, I don't. I'm probably alone here. I don't really know how else to articulate why I don't like NW as much as MM, but there just seems to me to be this weird 'random' aspect to NW that MM didn't have. There is this feeling that NW gives me that makes it seem almost unplayable and broken, while MM was very consistent.

I know I'm probably the only one who thinks this, from what I've seen everyone here seems to enjoy NW a lot. That's all I have to say for now.

Though I can't really comment on your qualms concerning some ineffable "randomness" (and I think you should try to specify a bit more if that critique is to be taken seriously), I can't say I share your other concerns. If MM was more "consistent" (?), it was also--in my opinion--consistently lacking in a lot of ways. I at least think the current melee system is leaps and bounds better than the odd over-hand swings and rampant spinning that made MM seem ridiculous at times; performance is also better, which is great considering that NW, like MM, is largely catered to large, organized events; and even aesthetically, surely you'd agree that the models and textures are a huge improvement over MM's. The game isn't perfect, but I don't feel all too nostalgic when I compare NW to MM.

My only qualm with NW in comparison to MM is not being able to host stable 250 player line battles (which, granted, was difficult even in MM, but at least doable). As it is now, players often get split up into two servers, and we wind up having around 120 players per server, and 60-70 players on each team.

I'm probably crazy for doing so, but I'm still holding out hope that we'll see performance improved enough for 250 or 300 man line-battles.

Well, I don't think you're crazy for thinking so, as it is what FSE promised us with the initial release (or well, 200+ players, they said), and so far, FSE has held nearly all of it's promises, or told us otherwise if they couldn't make something.
So, I'm still hoping for bigger servers too, since the latest performance fixes :D
Seriously though, you must be mistaking "Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord" with "Mounting Babes 2: Bonerlord"; both in open DreamBeta.

To the best of my recollection, no one has even tried to do a 250 man battle in NW.

That's because of the fact a server can't select a max of more than 200 players so far, but I'm hoping we will be able to do 250-300 in a near future.

I thought that was the entire point of the DLC?

NW certainly feels .... different to MM, but its still a much more polished and complete version regardless, better graphics, walking musicians (still easy targets), variety of artillery, awesome siege mode.. Commander Battles... I could go on.

In my experience NW has a lot more to offer than MM ever could, there's something for everyone.

I'd say it depends on what aspects you look at. I think that the MM melee is much more fun, as NW just feels sluggish, and there are still some bugs and stuff. The other parts of the game are fine, the artillery, graphics, stuff like that, I just don't like the melee system that much :|

Only thing I miss is the melee, but it's getting better in the new game. Other than that, there's nothing MM has that NW doesn't do better.
