I started playing Mount & Blade Warband about a week ago. After some trial and error and some reading on the forums I finally got my first character going on the single player campaign. Everything was going relatively smoothly. After spending most of my time finding companions and killing bandits I was invited to join the Nords which I accepted. After winning a ton of battles with my army of Huscarls I was finally offered Marshalship by the King. So after scouting around I decided my first act as Marshal would be to besiege a certain castle of the Vaegris which we were at war with. It went fine and we took the castle fairly easily and not long after peace was declared. Well, this didn't sit well with me as I still wanted to use my Marshal powers so I decided to see what I could do. Even though we were at peace it seemed I could still start a campaign so I did. I picked out another weak castle from a faction we were at peace with and started the seige. All my lords were with me at first but when I started the initial assault I noticed the only troops on the field were my troopsl. I continued to fight until we were eventually overwhelmed. When the assault failed my forces were decimated, my character imprisoned, and all the lords had apparantly ran for the hills at the start of the assault. Then I get a message from the King saying I'm fired as Marshal! I suppose this was bad karma for attacking a peaceful faction? Either way I was shocked at first but could not help but laugh at the situation. I felt like William Wallace when his allies abandoned him in Braveheart!
