Napoleonic Wars Soundtrack
« on: June 20, 2012, 04:11:56 AM »
Now, I play NW with the music disabled for a number of reasons: a few of the selections are, frankly, just bizarre (The Wedding March?  Really?), the sound of battle doesn't really need anything added, and it interferes a bit with the natural music already there (ie, drummers, fifers, pipers, guys who decide to play one of the many pianos and/or organs, etc).

But with that said, I do actually like the soundtrack, and would like to stick it on my iPad and/or burn a CD of it.  Now I know I can just head into the Music folder in the game and just grab the MP3s and OGG files in there, convert to WAV, and burn them, but the problem is that most if not all of the music in that directory is pretty low quality. 128kbps just doesn't cut it anymore.

I'm guessing that, given the type of music it is, the entire soundtrack was just royalty free music grabbed from wherever, but I'd like to know if anyone knows where I can get a higher quality version (at least 256kbps or, even better, FLAC)

A lot of the music sounds digitally rendered, probably because the composition is in the public domain, but every recording of a professional performance is copyrighted.

Vincenzo would you happen to have a list of all the music pieces or a link to them all? I would like to look more into the classical music used in Napoleonic wars. Thank you   :D

I think it's custom made for NW by a music group of some sort if I remember correctly

I find that even the Wedding March and Pomp and Circumstance are interesting inclusions, but not unwelcome ones.  Even in the heat of battle, hearing the grandeur of a ceremonial march gives a unique romantic feel to being a soldier in Napoleon's army, filled with colorful and bright uniforms, and sort of removes you from being a rough tough gritty soldier in a terrible and bloody war, but more like playing a role in an opera.

Unfortunately I have the music muted most of the time now because I'm also on Teamspeak with my regiment.

Well to be specific I meant "romantic" as in "Romanticism".  But there certainly is a bit of irony in there :P

Yes but you still would have evidence of torrenting.
