Caution when approaching situations.  Don't engage fights you aren't sure you can win unless you must.

Don't use cntl+space to travel long distances across the map in one shot.  You're better off using it in quick bursts so that you can see incoming enemies.

Pick up companions as early as you can and outfit them with the cheapest ranged weapons (including the looter's rocks you find) as soon as you can.  Then let the enemies come to you.

Take advantage of the fact that you can join any side in combat with this mod.  You can easily join in fights between two warring lords, build some reputation with the one you helped and gain great experience for your companions along the way.

If the above ideas fail then try enlisting with a lord.  A king's army is a bit boring due to how slow he moves, but you'll rarely ever get trashed in a fight.

The only cheating I use myself is the world reveal and teleport sometimes. Usually for those "hunt down these bandit" things, because I've found them in places they shouldn't be (Like forest bandits from around Suno, being all the way in Sarranid land). Or if I have a quest to hunt down units I can't catch due to me not having massive cavalry only armies.

Frankly though as Warband is a single-player game, it doesn't particularly matter. I play for fun, not to get hair-tearingly frustrated.

You could also set combat difficulty all the way down for starters to get used to the fighting system.

Never knew this Ctrl+Space feature lol.  But I agree having element of caution never fails.  You should be able to roughly gauge whether you stand a chance by looking at how the enemies army is comparable to your own before engaging.

I only use cheats at the beginning for my character creation, not because I'm too lazy to level up a char myself but because I started this game so many times already from new. It's too much of a time commitment to get a player's char to level 35, 40 or even higher.

Very carefully.    And even then...   I've been wiped out before.   But that, to me, is what makes it fun.   I have risk of loss and have to start all over again.

Well, for start I usually turn damage to me to 1/4 and enlist to army. I tend to chose king, but even better would be marshal, but I haven't found way to discover who is marshal without being part of faction. But in this game, I played on normal damage, except during town/castle battles, so I didn't get down almost instantly and enjoyed some fun.

I never cheat when i'm low level, i only do it to skip some parts of the game that don't make much sense to me and when i'm already high enough level.
Like when i become king i want my companions to wear the best gear of their race (Matheld nordic, Alayen vaegir and so on) so to do it i bring up the item cheat and give them race appropriate items (i just like it that way for some reason :D)
I keep looking for better items for them during my travels but i grab the essentials through the cheat menu, in my head it's like i sent envoy's to buy that stuff for me, hence the base items only - without prefixes.

I feel cheating robs you of too much immersion and enjoyment and when you start doing it you can't stop so i don't do it at all, except in this particular case.

My advice is: play Floris on normal difficulty from the beginning (or higher when you get the hang of it) with full damage and all, it really isn't that difficult at all, read through a few general guides and your set, no need for money cheats or teleport (?!) you don't really need those at all...

BUT!

i did edit my companions and my own stats once through import/export, cause they've been built wrong from the start so there's that :D

Yes, cheats completely ruin the game, this is why I:
1.Set damage to normal and those other things to hard, except combat speed(so difficulty is now 104%)
2.Set saving to autosave when I quit game.(Which I greatly regretted later, because I meddled with enterprises and in that saved game oil press gives 5k despite the fact I've changed everything to normal. If I've chosen saving without quitting, I could make 2 saves and possibly evade this. )However, it doesn't save while in battle, so if you are caught in battle that you can't win by any chance, you can either do die like a hero or hit Alt+F4 to quit. You need to wail long time while Floris loads, though, so I don't do it very often.)

Enlist in the army of a lord from the faction you'd like to join (assuming you do). You get basic equipment and experience without having to deal with raising a fighting force of your own. Level up a bit, and when you're confident you can survive on your own, leave his service.

I either import a character, or I trade using the study prices option in the shop. Attaching myself to battles and attacking looters as I gain numbers help. A small party that invests in pathfinding helps. Surgery too is good, if things go wrong. Looting can be awkward, as I can often end up taking a city or castle with those oft looted villages. Castles or cities just taken by some kingdom can have small garrisons.

I never play with cheats. If I ever get the urge to I will delete my save file afterwards, because I feel I have lost interest in it afterwards.
