I agree. Ukraine played well (though I only watched the 2nd half). England with a lucky goal and an even luckier get away from the Ukranian un-goal. Though to be fair, he was offside when the pass to him was played. Guess you can call justice. Rooney looked really rusty for most of it, though I guess that is to be expected. Hope he doesn't get the full 90 mins against Italy though.

Parker was awesome, defensively, as was Ashley Cole. Thought Gerrard was impressive, again. Few mistakes here and there, but generally made amends. Especially with his 3rd assist of the tournament so far.
You're gonna have to play much better against Italy to win the game. No matter how Ukrainians were good, they're really not comparable with Italy. And I still think that Rooney is the best you've got right now. Lucky goal or not, that guy is always in the right place at the right time and has a perfect execution.

But he hasn't been good at international level for a while. At the minute we have 5 different goalscorers, all with 1 goal. We can still use Walcott from the bench (he is fast, and will be difficult for teams to play against late in the match). I honestly think Young should be on the bench too. He hasn't been good at all. Carroll is also useful, as it gives us anothe roption up front, since he is likely to get anything that goes up in the air.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but Rooney is experienced and top-class player so there's no tough opponents for him. I think he's much better solution than Carroll or Welbeck. Carroll is useful only with help of fast wings and their crossing, so I think that England is missing Lennon, although Walcott could do that job or they could at least bring Sturridge. I agree about Young, that guy had some good games for Man UTD but now he really sucks. Defoe should play more if you ask me, he and Rooney together could be a real nightmare for any defense.

That would be quite good, I do agree. It's a shame he hasn't played that many games this year for Spurs. I guess we can give Rooney some matches, see how he performs. If not, we do have substitutions for a reason.

Also, Carroll isn't only useful with fast wingers. I mean, Gerrard has a wicked cross.  :P

Meh Defoe is pretty damn inconsistent and I don't really think he's capable of scoring regularly against the best teams. Rooney on the other hand is clearly England's best striker, without him up there we really lack enough quality in that area. He's a must if we want to do well, some carthorse beanpole like Carrol will not cut it against defences of real quality. That said, we need to play 1 up front with the likes of Walcott, Young, Sturridge, Lennon and Wellbeck playing off him.

In reality this England team lacks the quality it did a few years ago and leaving out Rooney would leave it too lacking. One good thing to come of this lack of quality though is that it means Hodgson has had the freedom to play in a far more conservative style.

Nice win for Portugal, was hoping for a Czech win, though.

And lol'd at Cech running out of his goal to the enemy goal. :D

Hahaha those chicks are awesome. I'd totally bring a "Stand up if you hate the French" too.

They are silly cows. Casual racism is still not funny.
If you want to rile up the French, you can do it in a more civilized way, without bringing up hate.

Yeah, it is usually not funny, but I found the idea quite amusing in this instance.

Surprisingly good from England so far, nice to see all the forwards getting goals, Gerrard on form and Johnson doing a surprisingly good job in defence. That said, there've been some remarkably shaky moments - hopefully that'll settle though! It's getting interesting now, although there haven't been that many really really great matches yet.

It seems that Greeks don't stand much of chance tonight, but still I expect a good game. If they don't concede a goal in the first half, anything will be possible.
