Cavalry too weak? (opinion poll)
« on: May 28, 2012, 11:57:45 AM »
Firstly I apologise since I am aware that there are other threads which moan about Cavalry being too weak.  The idea of the thread was to get everyone’s opinion on the current condition of the Cavalry.

My opinion is that Cavalry are way too weak. They have moved away from Anti-Infantry (like they were in M&M) and have instead become Anti-Cavalry. I think there are many individual elements of weakness from falling of horse recovery time increased to sword becoming worse than the bayonet; which I feel have completely destroyed the concept of Cavalry and have punished both casual Cavalry players and the serious Regiments who play as Cavarly.

Now what is your opinion
Do you think cavalry are too weak?/Too Strong?/Fine how they are?
Why do you think Cavalry are too weak?/Why don't you think the cavalry are too weak?
Why do you think Cavalry have changed in such a way from M&M?
Do you feel that Cavalry should be made stronger?/remain the Same?/Made Weaker?

I look forward to everyones opinion

I agree that they could make the time that you recover (when falling off a horse) faster.
There are actually several ways to kill infantry, from behind and from the front. Cavalry is weak, though.
Especially the horses. The horse weakness ruins it everytime for me, maybe they should make horses a little tougher.
That's it, actually. I have nothing more to complain about cavalry.

Sincerely, AtheistOverlord.  8-)

Cavalry is not weak, nor is it that different.

The changes from MM compared to the current patch are mainly these:
Lost some speed
Lost a bit of manouver (Hussars have actually gained some)
Lost roughly 4 on the length of swords
Recieved a 15% chanse to be knocked of the horse if you take damage

Gained 5 health on horses
Gained 3-4 damage on swords
Gained an attack direction
Gained Reloading on horseback
(Some cavalry has gained armour as well (for the loss of 4 ironflesh though))

Infantry in comparison has:
Lost some speed
Lost turning speed
Gained 20 length on bayonets

So it's not really that different from MM so if things are so I find the notion of "way too weak" compared to fine in MM incompatible with the actual changes.

I agree to an extent. I feel cav is a beat weak in its current state. I've cast countless equine and rider alike on the tip of my bayonet. One big thing that's missing that's hard to replicate is that feeling of a 1,000+ lb animal and armored rider barreling down on you. I feel they play a mere surprise to currently occupied combatants and to create distraction. I wouldn't mind seeing a small buff to their available HP. Not sure what can be done about the rider dismount without being taken beyond balanced. Right now, if you go down within 15 feet of any enemy infantry you're a pin cushion before you're on your feet.

Opinion poll definition= An assessment of public opinion obtained by questioning a representative sample.

Stop being silly, and either state your opinion on the topic/answer the questions/leave. I hope thats simple, so that everyone can get back onto the issue.

If they took the length back of the bayonet it brings up the problem of what to do with the lance which i personally think could do with being a smidgin longer that the bayonet.

Biggest reason to prove that cavalry is weak is the simple fact that a good cav player can never beat a good infantry player 1v1. I dont think the game should be a rock paper scissor game where one class can always beat a different class. Those kind of games are always shit. Cavalry itself does not need to be made better its line infantry that needs to be nerfed. Atm they have a good ranged weapon and the best melee weapon in the game.
Well in mm the swords just felt better. They always acted exactly as i wanted them too and they felt a lot faster. Also there was no ghost hits (when you visually hit someone but the attack does not register).
I think cavalry should remain the same or get a speed (easier to feint) and/or length bonus.
Its just the infantry that are causing the problem.

I agree with Hekko, in general.

But I would say that Heavy cav needs a buff and that dragoons need to lost the musketoon.

But if Dragoons loose their muskets, they aren't Dragoons anymore, right?  :|

Like i said before. Cavalry is a support unit because unlike the rest, it can be destroyed if they do a frontal charge against an enemy line.
