I think what Hekko has mentioned is apparent for most of the types of combat in NW. He stated that melee doesn't live up to its potential, and while that is true, it can also be true for just about any combat style there is.

When speaking of artillery, the limited turn speed, as well as the inability to move your character while aiming makes it much harder to utilize the cannon to its full potential. I mean personally I am extremely disappointed that I am unable to suicide via cannon anymore. That, while being my main source of entertainment, was extremely important to me as a cannoneer, and to have these abilities limited or removed saddens me greatly.

Just as well, no jump crouch???!?!

A lot of the most entertaining things about MM has been removed or limited in NW, and while NW is still extremely well made and a great game, I feel that the little quirks and the refined combat systems are what truly made the MM we loved for so long.

Artillerymen believe the world consist of two people; other artillerymen and targets.

The old melee system was much more rewarding. IF you got good, you were very good. However now anyone can beat anyone, through luck such as hits on registering.

Agreed.
I have always said about any changes, and still do, it is catering for the noobs who can't be bothered to learn how to fight.

MM is virtually non-existant now.

I completely agree with you hekko the melee system needs improving, I have 1500 hours in warband and am one of the best meleers in the Aus NW community but there is one thing you got wrong you say here "Chambering feints" this is completely wrong you cannot chamber feints.

After just getting this and playing for awhile, the melee is a lot easier. After having jumped in for about 10 minutes I managed to take 5 people sort of by and managed to kill them with the bayonet. All the while shot at, jaegers can also hold their own on melee now however which I don't mind at all. I do feel stabbing with the bayonet could be a bit faster though.

And now even me.. Can't denie that the new "melee system" is getting boring, and one-handed.
I simply can't stand the spamming (and esp that you will need to spam yourself to actually make a chance). The last days i'm not playing a lot more in offical servers, and the events are getting more boring by the day. I've played a 2200 hours Warband, witch of more than 75% MM/napoleonic wars. And i'm just dissapointed how this comes to an end. By something that can be fixed so easily..

I miss the chamber fights...

the melee in MM had lasting appeal due to its depth, the same is true for native. NW just doesnt have that depth as far as i can tell and believe me i have tried to find it but it just feels clunky and unenjoyable. The game as a whole is fun but the melee portion just feels mediocre and that i think will ultimately cause many people to lose interest.

I am not saying it's possible to chamber feints, but you can "try" to chamber a feint which puts you in a situation where your attack has priority over the enemy since he has to start his attack again after he canceled it. An implied chamber so to speak.

It's all about the ATM in NW.

Attack-to-miss. Stab the air around the enemy, you will kill that way. It seems being precise with your offense in a dying art.

They said you cant spin anymore ... ok thats true but youre not flexible enough to have a chance versus some more enemies.
This chamber duels were pretty fine because you can do an overheadchamber, that could chamber both attacks in MM but it wasnt much dmg, that was the best thing ... i miss the time ... the best time of this.

As someone before me said; The game is pretty nice made, i totally agree, but this melee and this; You must spam for have a chance make me quit.
