Tree[d]
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:17:00 PM »
Hello!

I found this program called "Tree [d]" that generates random 3D models of trees. If you fiddle around with it you can manage to make decent looking low poly trees that can be used in game :)

Here's the link to their site:
http://www.frecle.net/index.php?show=treed.about

It's really nice in the way that you can create one tree that you're happy with and just click a button and automatically generate a different, but similar tree for variations.

Here's a scene I quickly threw together by using stuff made with the program:
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)

Just thought I should make a thread about it as it can be a quite useful tool :)

Edit: Hmm, didn't really think too much before starting the thread, so it probably is in the wrong section xD

Indeed, it can be very useful for people who haven't even tried modelling of stuff like that. Thanks.

No problem :D

Btw, to get it low enough for warband, you should make the leaves quite big and use the branch textures instead of the single leaf-ones.

Edit: You should also note that when importing it into openBRF the backside of the leaves are invisible, so you should select them and do "Backfacing faces" --> "add (x2 faces)". Which also means that the polies for the leaves will double.

Textures are included :)

And yep, free to use:
"Best of all tree[d] is free to use, and you can include the trees you make in your own projects, commercial or free, as long as they are not model packs, texture packs, 3D model generators, or texture generators."

Very nice. You could release the ones you got as OSP.

Wouldn't that be a model pack? :P

And besides, the ones I've got aren't that good, nor hard to make yourselves with the program.. They were just quickly made as I wanted to see how a dense forest scene would look like with it..

A little test forest I made quickly with the program:
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)

Consisting of seven different trees where all of them have 135 polies each.

135 is pretty little. They look okay but i think you could increase them.
