Mexican Standoffs
« on: May 13, 2012, 06:09:05 AM »
I got to say, I am really impressed with this mod.  I thought that no mod would be able to top Expanded Gameplay from m&b original, but this one certainly has.

Now, I've been having some issues with this game and I was wondering if there was some way to fix them.

first off, when I'm fighting with allied lords not under my control, they like to use the "hold position command" a lot.  This just leads to both armies just standing still and none advancing.  Haven't had this problem since I started my own kingdom naturally, but before I did it was very annoying.

Second, seige battle defenses are redicuously long.  Fighting off 7000 enemies can take over an hour, even though it is really easy if your troops are decent (playing on normal difficulty).  Auto-resolve is not really an option, as while you can have like 10 kills for every death/wounded on your side just playing the seige out, auto-resolve makes the fights even at like 1 to 1.  If you are outnumbered 3:1 this is not really an option, while using Join the battle makes the fight seem trivial.  Right now I'm defending Rivacheg from a 7000 large Vaegir army with about 2500 men, and I have resorted to just alt-tabbing and letting the battle run in the background.

It will be fixed next patch [which is according to Xeno, due very soon]
James, there is no question you use Smithy-Seeking Ammunition (SSA).  That Carbine has never failed to hit me right in the face as you're going full speed on horseback.

I hope that the AI will become more intelligent when it comes to travelling on maps with water. That scene with water in the middle of the map is always hilariously easy if you command all your units to hold position,as all the enemies will cross the water at very slow speed.Wouldn't it be more logical for them to flank?Eh,say hello to nest of bees target practice.

Xeno is fixing the AI for many things in the next patch.
And for God's sake if a horse is just milling about don't shoot it. It had hope, it had dreams. I used to ride this bay who aspired to play the role of Sarah Jessica Parker in her documentary.

Yeah, i figured that the ai issue would be dealt with soon.

That huge, long seige was more of a worry for me.  Luckily, I found out that the Barbarian can become as good of an archer as legolas is within one fight!

Barbarian is powerful physically, but receives penalties to all things monetary as well as no boosts to relation. So he's a nice starter and there's always a thrill in mowing down an army as one character, but he's not really OP

I find it a bit cheap that he starts with 63 in strength and agility, you basically become unbeatable without doing anything and all you have left to do is pump up intelligence and charisma,so the battles are not very challenging. The hard early game monetarily talking is not very hard.Peasant revolutionary ftw.

Try saying that when you meet a 1k expert army. You have little chance unless you have party skills and serious troops, which costs much more to maintain = fewer troops than other classes,

Yeah, the Barb's actually fairly well balanced, imo; he / she is really easy early on, but it's quite difficult to build and maintain a large enough force to actually take over Calradia.

If all you're doing is sandbox battles, that's one thing, but that's not really the objective of the mod; eventually you should be fighting the Lords, and they're, er, not amenable to rushing single-handed ;)

I don't have the force required to do that yet,and probably wont even try to until the next build gets released. But there are cases in which an army of 50 elite soldiers can simply devastate if managed properly. And if you have a very powerful character with a lot of riding and say,500 profficiency in a weapon you can become scary(I was almost soloing 200 men parties in Prophesy of Pendor with a level 49 character, but there wasn't the added challenge of firearms, thats a very tricky one).I agree that the class has its weaknesses, but with his strength a barbarian shouldn't need so many troops.

Well keep in mind 5 men vs. 50 men can have a much different result than 5,000 men vs. 50,000 men.

Beating a 1k expert army is possible even as PR so far,as long as it doesn't have a lot of ranged troops.I had 50% hp when I entered this battle,it was close to midnight when I fought it,so the result can be much better. Also my char is only lvl 41,with 23 in AGI.The result is this:

(click to show/hide)
Goddamn halberdiers,still,375 casualties for the enemies,0 for me.Time to solo Calradia(or atleast Swadia)
