also this thread can be used to discuss colonial history, your favourite empires or post-colonialism

We have an entire forum for that:  http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,43.0.html

That forum is for discussing your favourite military uniform or the curvature of Viking war axes or whatever.

The Sage's Guild - Historical Discussion

Come here to discuss all things medieval, history, politics, life, weapons, armour and similar.
They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; they could see one after another of them being killed -- run over, maimed, destroyed -- but they continued to play anyhow. We really all were very happy for a while, sitting around not toiling but just bullshitting and playing, but it was for such a terribly brief time, and then the punishment was beyond belief; even when we could see it, we could not believe it.

The east broke itself, really, but the west certainly did help break it with things like the Iranian coup d'etat.

The middle east killed itself in the Cold War. Both the USSR and the US offered it help. They wanted "neither east nor west." Africa was unable to receive help in a few of its USSR alliances.

The far east is still alive, but it isn't a very good place to live, even with economic superpowers like China. China could afford to be very Imperialist, if they wanted to, but they wouldn't want to anger their western trade partner. They aren't self-sufficient like the USSR was. They rely on trade and would have no hope starting a war (and winning it) because of it. A failure of Stalinism, just like North Korea.

Now the west is slowly killing itself, but instead of killing itself with oppressive dictatorships, with no will to trade, with too much trade, or with too little cooperation and causing too much strife, it's killing itself with two-cent fines, with over enforcing of lawsuits and court matters, by injecting money into itself with printer's ink and having it only decrease in value and reduce their economy, because it all only goes to a few people (CEOs of today make 200x their employees on average, when in the 1950s it was only 20x.) The military of the United States might be second only to China's, but if you can't afford to support it, it becomes a loose arm.

None of this is permanent though. World has always slowly fell and rebuilt itself.

:P

I see the joke you're making there!
A man either possesses an enviable memory or has lead a truly pitiful life, if he knows nothing of regret.

In the middle of the night, when I'm in this dream, it's like a million little stars spelling out your name. You gotta say that we'll be together, come on, come on, my little taste of heaven, don't make me wait forever.

The US has much better military technology (when the exoskeleton suits and laser weapons are finished by the scientists, the world will tremble if everywhere else doesn't get them) and a better funded military, so I only say China's is stronger because they have a population of 2.1 billion, and could conscript everyone at moment's notice if they want due to a dictatorship.

It was alright. Fucked it with the second one though when they started covering the colonies. Although admittedly the battles were a lot better.

The US has much better military technology
Which they regularly sell to China. Silly colonials.

Only fair that they do that, since they probably buy all the parts to make them from China.

I wasn't talking about weapons and stuff. I was talking about real power in every aspect, diplomacy, economy, interventions throughout the world without anyone's permission, companies that operate in literally every country in the world, etc. China has growing economy which can collapse when their cheap labor force become not so cheap anymore. Huge land and a new rocket system doesn't make you considerable world power. Also, I don't think anyone gives a **** what China thinks when someone wants to do something wherever in the world which is not the case with the US.

Keep going, Arch, this is entertaining. I've always loved watching you argue with how good you are at it.

Wasn't it Russia and China that vetoed any conflict with Syria? Even states as rich as Qatar wanted to pledge their entire military to invade it. The United States, Russia, and China are the current superpowers.

Russia, for example, was the one who warned the United States of the missiles being built in Libya, Syria, and North Korea, because Russia has a pretty big intelligence network. Russia, as the biggest country, also has a lot of natural resources and room for expansion. China is second largest and also has a lot of natural resources, although not quite as much room for expansion if you consider issues like the Gobi Desert. All three play a pretty big role even if you don't hear about the east's role as much. China also has a totalitarian Supreme Leader, so that should give them an edge if he is any good (though most leaders in general suck.)

If you want to say that China's economy will collapse when their cheap labour is no longer available, then so will the United States' economy, considering how closely linked they are.

The Russian Federation might not have the strength of the Soviet Union, sure, but they are still much stronger than most places today.
