I'm sick of lancers charging head on at me, only to be outfought by my bayonet, then being granted a couple of seconds god mode while they automatically step off their horse just to engage me in melee

I thought this game was supposed to be remotely realistic. How is it possible for someone to be stabbed by a bayonet while charging full speed, then randomly dismounting on thin air as their horse keeps running.. Whilst this is happening, it's impossible to stab them, the bayonet goes straight though them.

This didn't happen in M&M so why does it in M&B:NW?

If cav aren't skilled enough to kill infantry on horseback, they shouldn't be granted a second wind. they should die like they deserve to.

If this game was even remotely realistic (as you want it to be) you would have no chances whatsoever to "outfought" a charging lancer with your bayonet.

Not true to be honest, the human body is capable of a lot more than what this game allows, in other words - you have more options as to dodging and parrying a couched/thrust lance in reality than what is possible in a game

Lucky escapes aside, if half a ton of warhorse is charging at you, it really doesn't matter if the man perched atop it has a pointy stick, the horse will likely knock you out, break bones or crush you to death (and lets not forget if you stand aside, there is still the man with a long pointy stick). Baring in mind the OP seems to intend to "outfought" the lancer with his bayonet, not simply escape death.

But all this is talking about reality, and so is a non-factor.

There's a super secret special forces maneuver that I thought I'd share with you, it's called "move to the side"  a horse moving so fast can't exactly turn on a dime. And if you moved to the side opposite of a couched lance then quite frankly there's not enough time for him to move the tip of that lance to the opposite side and position it for a lethal blow before a bayonet can stick him or his horse.

And you could always use your musket like a javelin

That's great, now you should use the super secret special forces skill of reading, and realise that the OP intended to "outfought" the charging lancer, not merely survive.

I don't know about killing infantry with sword cav (whenever I play that, I usually rely on sneak attacks or killing people who are distracted by melee), but I play lancer and can easily kill a skilled, aware infantry player 1v1. I just go in, slow down at the last second, and turn left as the lance is at its maximum extent.

Now, there are some tricks infantry can pull that work well: the best one is to use ~ to watch the cav player while walking in the opposite direction, then spin around and stab him with the bayonet as he comes in for the "easy kill", but that can be countered if you're expecting it. And, of course, infantry can just block down, but if they try that I usually come back around for a couch (although a skilled player should be able to tell whether a cav is making a stab pass or a couch pass). Trying to jump in front of the horse only works to stop couches; it's an easy kill when you're going for a stab.

However, the best way for an infantry player to defend himself is to get in good defensive territory: it's very hard to lance someone in a narrow alleyway, and almost impossible if he's got someone helping him. So in a city or a close group of buildings, infantry definitely has the advantage 1v1. But the worst thing for cav, if we don't restrict ourselves to melee, is the guns. A loaded gun is the best defense against cav: if you are any good at aiming, you can kill a cav coming in for a lance every single time. The problem (for infantry) is that they get impatient and try to shoot while I circle at a distance, waiting for them to do just that before coming in for the kill.

I don't claim to be a master player, but I usually top the charts or come very close as lancer, getting around 2:1 in TDM. Most of the times I die, it's either because (in order) I a) got shot, b) got my horse shot and got stabbed on the ground, c) misjudge the timing, d) get reckless while trying to kill someone who looks oblivious or who is reloading, or e) make an unwise tactical maneuver like charging into a dense group of enemies.

I'm not even sure what you're trying to argue anymore.
