Btw. do you know where this hit-sound file is located and is it "legal" to edit it?

I think it's the 3 files located in mount&blade warband > sounds. They're called arrow_hit_boddy_1, arrow_hit_boddy_2, arrow_hit_boddy_3.

Don't know if you can mod them though

No, those are the sounds you hear when YOU are hit by an arrow.
What you want to edit is "mp_arrow_hit_target".

First of all, it's located in the Napoleonic Wars "sound" subfolder - every module has its own directories.
Then, to edit it, just get yourself one of the countless audio-editing programs out there. I personally recommend using Audacity, it's free and easy to use.
Crank up the volume, save, done.

it actually, makes a sound... so get informed before making a useless post.

First of all, where is he supposed to 'get informed' about it when this is the only thread (to my knowledge) talking about it? And as we can see from some of the replies (and I think I have seen mention of it in other threads), other people struggle to detect the sound, and since it is useful to be able to hear it, this is a worthwhile discussion to have; the existence of the sound in NW has been 'confirmed' though not by the devs. The thread wasn't useless. Your post, on the other hand....

A small "whump" when you get a hit with artillery would also be nice. And I really want to be able to turn the kill log off as that damn thing takes up so much space.

The casualty report can be switched off in options (press escape to bring up the in-match menu, and options is one of the choices available).

my bad guys, i guess i never really bothered to use my xray vision to see through the smoke, or use my bat ears to hear the quietest sound in the world thanks guys for being so patient with my dullard self i should have just turned on the kill log right before every time i wanted to take a shot
Seems like someone is to lazy to check the log.

I've just tried this a couple of times but struggled.
When I played the sound from the folder (not in game) I instantly recognised it from warband but I definitely haven't heard in either MM or NW.
So I did as you said and increased the volume (by 20db) and tested it out. I still couldn't make it out.
So then I edited the wav to have the normal sound +20db followed by my voice exclaiming "HIT!"
I thought I'd definitely be able to hear this but apparently not. Does anybody have any ideas what could be my problem?

You guys have the kill log on?

No because this is not COD and isnt centered on K/D and leet kieels like those games IMO.Its about valiant charges to doom or glory,Holding your position wile all your team mates fall around you,Teamwork to complete your objective because 1 guy with an inaccurate musket is useless without 100 other guys with muskets.

I don't even check my kills until the end

Thats how I see it at least  :|

He's not asking for a huge ******** celebration everytime he hits something. Just a small mark to appear in the crosshair or the crosshair to turn red etc. for when he hits someone. Don't jump to conclusions.

Agree on that...

I have the same problem, after increasing volume by XX db I still couldn't hear anything. Any solutions?

Another sound like you says :" I hit you/ I got you". and than you see you have a kill/hit.
Or you add something else: Its up to you.

Checking the log (I presume you mean the chat log? The 2nd line of his post suggests that he prefers not to have the casualty report on) takes you away from the game for a second or two, in which time you might run into trouble. Plus when there are many kills happening, finding your own kill isn't easy. Furthermore, a hit doesn't always result in a kill. If you are shooting at long range you need to know if your aim is good, and if you have no discernable feedback on whether you are hitting someone that is a problem (I am not sure if I have heard the hit sound once in NW, so that is not discernable feedback for me).
