Linebattles are now melee fests?

I think it depends on the event and the regiment, as there are wildly different opinions here.
 
In my experience shooting has improved and thus had more punch in the small moments we do start a firefight, but being a very melee-based regiment we sure love the charge! So yeah, for us it's usually a melee fest.

LBs have had rules to enforce shooting/prevent an immediate breaking of formation for a charge since their inception in '03.
It's just a side effect of attempting to replicate a mode of combat that relied on morale impact (much) more than physical damage in a game system where fights are to the death.


From everything I've heard, the ballistics changes in NW compared to MM make close-range fire less randomly unpredictable, so if anything, charges should be more risky now.

I have the opposite opinion of you, then lol. I for one, don't care much for shooting. Back in mm prussia5, when I led the 16th, we were awful shots. We often fired a volley, and banzai'd in, and to great effect most of the time. This is why I find it hard to do much in secession, while I love the mod, community, and organized events, it's just not my style to sit back and shoot- I like firing and calling a regimental charge 


As one general said (how did I forget which one?) "You will rise up! You will give them a volley! THEN! YOU WILL! GIVE THEM! THE BAYONET!"

Bayonete = Down to skill

Lol. Any large group melee hardly takes any skill. It is a button smashing one hit kill overhead fest. Sometimes you can take on a group by yourself by holding s key and timing some nice overheads. But definitely not bayonet=skill with the current melee system.

 I take it you haven't seen the 1st EPI charge then..

But to respond to your opinion, I would have to say that it is not a melee fest in linebattles. There is a fair number of volleys,charges,horse charges, and artillery volleys constantly happening.

That is the 91st. They are poorly trained men in skirts. Their rankers and officers only know one command and this is "Charge!". Proper regiments know what it is about.

Different linebattles, different rules. I would recommend the Sunday LB by Lance, Tuesday by Heinrich or Friday by 5arge for the best NW linebattle experience, those are the ones I regularly attend to and enjoy.

Slower movementspeed --> Shooting more efficient --> Less melee fest. On the flipside, melee is certainly more fun than longwinded shooting, and as such it's not really a bad thing that there's alot of melee!

But there the movespeed is already lower than mm? I dont think it should be even lower.
