What I really wish it would be possible would be to bypass the strategic map and replace it with something else, something that emulates a map.

One hypothetical ideea would be a trade screen.

Now you have a grid. The borders of the cells from the grid you can alter via altering the graphical interface itself. Each cell contains a texture that is taken from the graphic representation of the items, right ? Now replace these textures(icons) with something else...

The result should be akin to this :

A risk, or Total war map, completly interactive, no M/B strategic map whatsoever, just using the engine for the battles and for the scenes inside castles, villages etc. Is such a thing posibile ?

It maybe posible but you would need to code a lot since you are modifying a lot of the game.

Quite possible, and it's baffling why hasn't anybody done that yet. Maybe because riding around is more fun than playing Risk :).
For a similar presentation, you may look up Sword of Damocles' strategic map interface (not sure if it survived into the WB version).

Well riding around could be more fun, but the strategic map is so... full of grind.

I am of a KISS (keep it simple, stupid) philosophy. I always felt that a strategic map in the style of Total War, Heroes of Might and Magic or Kings Bounty, togheder with the combat engine from Mount and Blade, would have been a much better combination. Noone else agrees ?

It all depends on how much fun (and not "grind") you make the strategic tabletop game.
Even if inferior in realism, excitement, and freedom of movement and action, I can imagine the strategic game can be loads of fun if designed well. (Besides, some players don't like realism and freedom of action - some of them want to enlist in AI lords' parties and wave big anime swords.)

When I run it, it gives me errors reading:

"Cannot find Warband directory, using local directory instead."
"Could not find texture..." etc. A bunch of nonsense even though the MapEditor folder is located in the root M&B directory.

It also reads that its last update was in 2008, so, probably doesn't function for Warband 1.15x

I'm having the same problem right now. I've just downloaded and installed it and it gives me the same errors when I try to run it.

Unfortunately the Ponavosa World Map is really Huge. So I'm opting out for a different idea.

I've tried everything to install the Thorgrim Map Editor right, but it doesn't work. It gives me errors about not being able to find the path and then a buch of other errors afterwards. Beings I don't own  a "legit" copy of the Original M&B I cant do the suggested fix about downloading the game and what not.

I really need something geared towards Warband anyways. The Map Editor used to work before I got a virus and had to get a new computer, ever since then It never works no mater how many times I re-install/download it. I used to have an XP operating system, my new comp is Windows 7. Is that the probelm? Someone please help!
