Dude, I'm with you there.
Also, we Americans elected George W. Bush in 2004. Some even hold the belief that we elected him in 2000 as well  :P

english... the aborignal mistreating in new zealand

They weren't as mistreated as people seem to think. The English tried really ******** hard to get along with the Maori, but they were just too savage. Hell, they Maori invaded an island of the coast of New Zealand that was occupied by a people who had renounced violence. The Maori killed all of them (and ate them), after these people had nursed the sick Maori back to health.

Sure, the English dicked them around a bit, but the English tried to fairly buy land, they tried to help them, but a lot of the Maoris decided they liked the taste of Englishmen.

Is it true that Germans used the women in occupied Norway to produce a more blonde (or blondier?) German race and there emerged lots of war bastards as a result to that?

Yes, and it wasn't just in Norway.

It was called "Lebensborn" by the way.

Yes, sort of, but the word "used" might be misleading I think. I looked it up and found an in-depth article about the subject. I translated the conclusion and added a few comments from the rest.

Oh, and the treatment of these war bastards can be added to the list of shameful things.

"What’s sick about this is that the British establishment destroyed the Sinhalese people completely. Completely and purposely, sadistically. Stole their land, humiliated and massacred their government, made it Imperial policy to erase every shred of self-respect the Sinhalese had left.  You can talk about the Nazis all day long, but for my money nothing they did was as gross as what you find out when you actually look into the history of British-Sinhalese relations. If you can even call them “relations”; I guess a murder-rape is a relation, sort of.

But nobody knows about it. Weird, huh? Nothing weirds me out more than the total news blackout the Brits have managed to put on all the sick shit they did to brown and black people all over the world. They had a system, and it worked. They’d grab some paradise island in the tropics, use the Royal Navy to wall it off from the rest of the world, and crush the local tribe. If the locals resisted, the Brits would starve them to death, shoot them down, infect them with smallpox or get them addicted to opium–whatever they had to do to gang-rape the locals so bad that they’d lose the will to resist.

And to this day, they don’t catch even a little bit of Hell for it. Everybody thinks the Brits are all cute and harmless. You’re all a bunch of suckers for those suave accents, you suckers! The truth is that compared to the Brits, the Nazis you’re always yammering about were a gang of eighth-grade stoners who ran around spraypainting swastikas on school property. The Nazis lasted one decade; the Brits quietly ran their extermination programs for three hundred years, and to this day they wouldn’t even think of feeling guilty about it. Wouldn’t cross their minds.

[...]

By all accounts, the Sinhala/Kandyans were harmless slackers, who didn’t need or want much from the outside world. All they asked was for people to leave them alone up on their big rocky highlands to do their Buddhist thing. Unfortunately that wasn’t British policy. It irked the redcoats that Kandy still had a king, an army, all this impudent baggage that went with independence. The British decided to break the Sinhalese completely, crush the whole society.

You have to remember that by this time, the early 1800s, the Brits have perfected their techniques in little experiments all over the world. Those Clockwork Orange shrinks were amateurs compared to the Imperial Civil Service. They had dozens of ways of undermining native kingdoms.

British administrators were trained to do a kind of rough, quick sociological sketch of the natives, get a sense of the fault lines and then figure out how to exploit them. The Brits saw fast that the Kandyans were a sluggish bunch of people divided into rigid castes in the classic subcontinent pattern. That made it easy: the Brits made two big castes their official pets and shunned the others, setting up a violent hate between different parts of Sinhalese society. That guaranteed that if the diehard Sinhalese/Kandyan nationalists ever revolted, the teacher’s-pet castes would have a good selfish reason to help massacre them."

I wouldn't trust any "article" from Exiled very much. The website isn't known for its journalistic integrity or scientific vigour, to put it mildly.

A couple that immediately spring to mind from Canadian history are the residential schools, interment camps for the Hungarians in WW1, the chinese head tax, and just before WW2 we turned away a boatload of Jewish refugees and sent them back to Europe.

Shameful acts, let's see. Arguably the worst act done by the Turkish Government, is Wealth Tax (Varlık Vergisi) that was levied on the wealthier citizens of Turkey during WW2. This tax was simply to fund the army in case of an invasion by either the Axis or the Soviet forces. However, the arbitrous officials targeted mostly the non-Muslim citizens. They raised the tax so high, that after families couldn't pay, they were either sent to prisons or to a forced labour camp in Erzurum. 21 of our citizens died there. On top of that, 320 million Turkish liras (approximately 276 million American dollars) worth of assets were taken from them. Nearly half of the non-Muslim community left the country for another.

The worst act done by the Turkish people is, in my opinion, 6-7 September Incidents in 1955. Turkish newspapers showed the news of the bombing of the birthplace of Atatürk in Thessaloniki, Greece. The Turks assumed it was done by the Greeks, however, it is later found that it was orchestrated by some Turkish guy who later got arrested and confessed. (The bomb was found a day ago before the news arose)

This incited a big mob in Istanbul led a terrible riot, which included arson, raiding, looting and beatings in anywhere. It wasn't directed at anyone at first, but later on the most affected ones were citizens of Greek, Jew and Armenian descent. More than 10 thousand properties, %40 of them were owned by Greeks, were damages, and around 30 non-Muslim citizens died. After that, nearly the entire Greek population and a great deal of Armenian and Jew population emigrated from Turkey. On top of that, the guy who incited these events later on was allowed to finish his studies of Law in Istanbul University, and went on to become the governers of important districts, one of them being Beyoğlu, in which mostly Greeks inhabited once. This marked the day that Turkification (by that, I mean Muslimization) of assets in Turkey and of the population, was almost complete.

In addition, assuming only we're regarded as the continuation of the Ottoman Empire, the acts that were done by Hamidiye Regiment and CUP against the forced emigration of the Armenians are most saddening as well.

Me being Argentine, the War of The Triple Alliance (aka War of the triple infamy) is the most Shameful thing that my country has ever done, destroy one of our brother countries just to please the british foreign interests, and still have to look at the face of that bastard ( our president at the time) whenever i pay the bus  :x
Almost the entire male population of Paraguay was slain during the war.

The War of the Triple Alliance is fasinating, I've never heard of it before. honestly it is something I would only expect to happen in a book.

My latest frustration has been with a group of people at my college who have the belief that the Holocaust never happened. Honestly they are driving me mad, they have hundreds of ideas about what actually happened, all of which are annoying easy to shoot down.

How widespread is this belief? it is fairly widespread in America, well not widespread but its alot more common then I would like.

Also, having to deport the Ingrians, Estonians, Karelians and Russians who joined Finnish Army during WW2 to Soviet Union after the war - true, about half of them "disappeared" from the trains but half were sent to a certain death.

My Ingrian grandmother was one of those who managed to stay. Another thing one might add to the list is the Finnish military administration of the Karelian SSR during the Continuation War as something that was at least questionable.

Good for your grandmother, definitely. Ingrians weren't treated well during Stalin's reign.

As to the military governorship, not really. Yes, the death toll amongst interned civilians and especially Soviet POWs was bad but the actual death rate wasn't much higher than what Finnish civilians went through. It's important to remember that there was widespread starvation all over Finland that winter ('41-'42) and only German food supplies prevented a catastrophe. IIRC, the difference in death rate from malnutrition and disease was about 6% between Finnish citizens and interned Soviet citizens.

Naturally this does not excuse the actual murders and mistreatment that happened in the POW camps. At least most of the miscreant guards were later tried for their crimes.

worst Greek mistake of the last 50 years was the fact that the Jewish-American friendly goverment didnt sent troops in Cyprus. They only sent 1000 men from the ΕΛΔΥΚ and those great men managed to hold half the island without any support.
