Poll on the new Melee system, what people think so far!

There has been some discussion about the new melee system lately and I thought it would be interesting to be able to see some statistics about how people in general feel in straightforward numbers.

So go ahead and pick your side and if you have any corrections or ideas for more / less options, say so!

Edit: Interesting results! Also please add the explanation behind your decision, would be interesting to know what people think needs to be rebalanced and how!

from what i can see from the upper stab is that there is some ghosting.. i.e its hitting whomever even though they should be out of range. Quite alot of bounces on the up stab too but that's to be expected

Liked old MM system better. But Voted to go with rebalancing because i do believe the current one has potential. It's just not there yet.

I rarely use the standard thrust because I feel that the over head is much superior. It needs some tweaking here and there, but should be kept.

Swords also need a buff.

I liked the old MM system better, but since I guess the changes are here to stay, so the second best is to do some changes to make it smooth and less random in it's outcomes.

voted rebalancing aswell its pretty anoying that the overhead has more range and is most of the time to lethal

Since I first played this game, I noticed that there is a severe lack of skill required in melee any more. Or at least, that's how it feels to me. Allow me to point out my observations. In the original MM game, the melee was fairly balanced - the overhead had quite a good, predictable range, and the thrust was very controlled, had a good speed, and was fairly easy to see coming. However, with the new overhead thrust, the melee has become much less about skill and more about who can spam the most.

1. Melee is much too slow, the thrust is incredibly easy to block - or would be if you could block in time - though, not that there is any done. Blocking is too slow now, so by the time you've held the button down long enough for it to register, you're already dead. I notice that in MM there were duels lasting for very long periods of time due to chambering, spinning and general blocking abilities, things which are very hard to do now (not so much blocking), and I barely ever see anyone blocking. They mostly go in stabbing like madmen hoping to get kills. The stabbing is also very sluggish, and feels very heavy and quite difficult. Cumbersome.

2. Ranges and power, they're unpredictable. I find that I stab one time and get a kill in one hit on someone with full health, from a close range, and then other times from a close range I stab and it either goes through them or is so weak that it takes 4 or 5 stabs to kill. This is completely different to MM where there was a steady 1 or 2 stabs required, with the odd stub here and there. Plus, I find that sometimes I outrange people with an overhead, and other times I don't. It's completely random, I genuinely don't understand this new system.

I see some of the old MM greats getting killed by backpedaling because the ranges are so sporadic. They just run away stabbing wildly and getting crazy kills because they have no skill - I have almost never blocked since playing this game, it's unnecessary now. Fair enough it's good in the way that it stops annoyingly long duels where people run away blocking, but it's making the game somewhat unbearable.

Personally I find the extreme lethality of melee charming. As for balance, I havent really fought in melee enough to have an opinion on the matter, but I suppose both lower and upper stabs ought to be the same speed.

Swords are now so slow that even the heaviest cavalry AI is often beaten even by Jaegers/Rifles AI wielding their rifles as clubs, scattered, and hit from behind.  A very slight tweak to the cavalry and swords for Commander mode is needed.  A bayonet no longer even needs to block against a sword because he has greater range and can just repeatedly overhead thrust faster than a sword can block.

Not sure what vince will do to re balance. There was another thread suggesting a meele idea but he plainly just said no. Hopefully he listens to us and changes the meele.

My thoughts exactly. On MM the sword had a good balance with the bayonet, it was faster and, if you had a big enough sword, outranged the bayonet, but was fairly weak. Now, though, it is not only weak, but is also slow and even the biggest sword has a shorter range than a bayonet. Though, the damage is much better now.

Why do you suppose they would be the same speed? Realism? Other reason? Please clarify.
