From what i have seen if there is linebattle with sappers tend to be dull and boring due to the fact it ends in a WW1 tench warfare type scenario were no one will leave their pressure sandbags and dirt lumps.

The only time i see them being useful is siege and for artillery.

In general if you were fortifying a position often the rankers would do it themselves.

Not during the actual battle, though neither would sappers.

yeah but maybe there should be like reanacting events where u make entrenchements so actally the people who like sapper class actually can do something becouse still i dont think its a solution just letting them sit with arty and make some things to keep ureself bussy

Sappers should have the ability to spike/unspike cannons so they can at least have a use on the frontline that isn't throwing stuff down and not getting shot.

Hammer a metal spike down the touch hole of the cannon (the small hole in the rear where you ignite it from) so that you can't use the cannon again (because the hole is filled, you can't ignite the powder anymore).

To be entirely honest, I would love WW1 battles in NW. Of course it may be difficult with the muskets and slow-loading cannons but it is still worth a shot.  That is also what mods are for!

I beleive they are good in digging trenches for their men get some cover.

On sieges maps they are quite useful when it comes to blowing stuff up like walls or barricades or even a group of enemies defending.

I would envision the engineers role in a line battle, in order of priority, to be:

1) Build defenses for the artillery against cavalry charges.
2) Expend remaining build points to "enhance" these defenses with the goal being to construct a redoubt suitable as a fallback position should his side be losing.

This should extend a battle a bit without scattering random constructs around the battlefield -  admittedly unrealistic in a meeting engagement.

perhaps a simple answer to these sapper-fort problems might be drastically restricting the sapper points

N-N-N-Necro-po-po-po-post

This discussion's been dead for nearly a year, guys - Sorry!
Oh, blob. Every time I walk into a thread, you're already there fapping all over it.

Well...
I could have started a new thread but why? The comments in this one would likely just be duplicated when I ask the following question:

Have regiments reached some universal, or at least widely accepted, agreement on the use of engineers in Line Battles?

I'm only just downloading the game now and have not played yet but, from watching some of the excellent youtube coverage of MP gameplay, I'm quite interested in being an engineer. In those videos, I've seen some good...engineering and some that seemed lackluster or forced (upon someone not really interested in that role) or less than optimal (IMHO) compared to the possibilities.

If, based on the prior comments in this thread, engineers are being discouraged or have had limits placed on what they can and can't do in ANY sort of MP situation, not just line battles, I would really like to know now. I want to...train...myself to work within those limits rather than waste time devising constructs and concepts that may be impractical due to build point limits or have been outright banned from MP.

Any information would be welcome.

It's older than a year, I think newer opinions wouldn't hurt in a new thread.

MMM...if that's the proper thing to do, then I shall...if a day or so goes by and a new post seems to be the preferred approach.

Thanks for the input. Being new here, I've much to learn.
