Sound Problem
« on: April 19, 2012, 09:33:11 PM »
hi folks,

I dowloaded pop today and played it for the first time. was very impressed with the content but i've had trouble with the sound. the music tracks stop and restart when i click on traders and settlements and some sounds, like coins clinking when things are sold and the sound of clicking on menu options have gone completely. this also started happening on my other mods like brytenwalda and 1257ad after i downloaded pop.

has anyone else encountered this problem or know how to fix it?

thanks

Yup I got "upgraded" by Steam too. Anyone find a fix? I'll keep looking around too.

Great Mod IMHO! Been playing it for awhile but don't visit the community often. Very fun and quite addictive... at least that's what the wife tells me ;-)

Some say that WB version 1.151 that was released today fixes the sound problem (that was introduced by WB version 1.150). Can you verify if that is the case or not? TW redesigned the game engine sound system for these newest patches.

For money we have the standard sound in PoP:
("money_received",sf_2d|sf_priority_10|sf_vol_6, ["coins_dropped_1.wav"]),

It uses volume level 6. There are 15 volume levels in the module system for 1.143 (- I haven't checked 1.151 yet). 1 is lowest and 15 is highest.

Some people reported problems with sounds when they had music disabled. Judging by the post-patch posts, the fix is to enable music, and if you still don't want to hear it, reduce music volume to 0.
Although PoP's music is awesome.

Edit: some people still have problems, and the TW/NW guys are "working on it".. sigh
Edit 2: not to mention a problem with archers not firing when standing still.. double sigh

@Treebeard: They have new animations which may clash with the achievement poses. So porting may be needed, I'm afraid.:(

@Treebeard : updated to 1.151 and the "money_received" sound is back to normal volume level but the clicking in menus is still almost impossible to hear (not a big bug IMHO).
So far everything else is fine.

Thanks for the feedback on the sounds. I've not installed 1.151 yet but it seems there might be some bad issues like the ones MV is mentioning, especially the ranged troops not shooting would be bad. Also the hit boxes seem to have been modified (the have been narrowed down for objects such as trees, so if you hit a tree a bit from its center, then the arrow will go through it).

By the way, the new crouching feature that can be enabled in the ini file: will it be used by the AI automatically? It would be nice to have wall defenders in sieges be able to crouch, but at the same time it might unbalance existing sieges and make them harder for the player.

@MV: You're right, I'll take a look at the 1.151 module system in the weekend and see what would be beneficial to port. If there are incompatibilities then those would need to be fixed as well.

Yeah MV your achievement poses had to be moved down a few spots since 1151 added musket animations.
