Allies won't help attack a castle?

After becoming a vassle and talking to my good budy the Marshall of Swadia, we rod off together to take a Nordish Castle that was outmanned by our troops. I set up the siege, built the ladders and went to assault and he never joins. What am I missing here?

This works as in Native. In order to get help during a siege battle that you initiate, you either need to be marshal or you need to have convinced the other party to follow your lead.

You'll need to suggest that the other troop siege the castle and/or begin the assault and then join them, otherwise.

Yup, go to the Marshall, advise him that you can both take ______ if you act immediately.  If the Marshall agrees with you ("To the walls!"), let him and his fellow leaders descend on the castle/city and then join them at the siege camp to take command.
