Bots do not account length of arms and do not put a block.

Frisian dude....you know those cat pics arn't mandatory anymore, right?  :P
And you know fingers aren't mandatory yet you still have them. >:I
Nords ruled by King Ragnar, Khergits ruled by Sanjar Khan, Rhodoks ruled by King Graveth, Swadians ruled by King Harlaus, Vaegirs ruled by King Yaroglek. All those peoples live, fight, and die in the continent of Calradia. The Nords and Rhodoks field solely infantry and archers, the Swadians and Vaegirs have infantry, archers and cavalry and the Khergit field almost exclusively cavalry. No such things as "infarty" or "calvary" exist. Play Vikingr!

So back to pikes
I would prefer it if horseman would have some courtesy and would leave people alone when dueling.

Bots do not account length of arms and do not put a block.

Even the best player can't block two directions at once without a shield, though

And actually: yes they do. 1 on 1, they have blocked my stabs quite often, or would
have, if I hadn't adjusted

its best to have one line attacking down and the other attacking from above and that just confuses the ai
Abusing well known bug = glitching, and glitching is not allowed on our official servers. I don't even think it's necessary to explain why, since I believe that's obvious. It's like sticking your penis into a blender - it's not written anywhere, you just know it's wrong and it can cause you a lot of trouble, so you don't do it.

I watched as the bot did not put a block against a single pike, when the soldier was away from him.

Well duh, some will raise their weapons and just run into whatever weapon awaits them
Not really pike specific

It should also be mentioned that a pike can quickly turn into a death trap, when the enemy gets too close

If anyone has seen pike 'formations' getting massacred then I wager there were far too few pikes in that so called formation. Pikes are generally underused in any game mode, despite being extremely effective in group fighting (and not too shabby one on one, especially against cav) and a major part of warfare in the era. Too many players play The Deluge as though it were all about getting as many kills with a gun before running away from any cavalry or bots that come near them. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, many play Invasion mode while apparently only thinking of their k/d ratio. Large pike formations are effective and fun, they are as much a part of the gameplay as muskets yet they are too often neglected.

Frankly I am put off from playing this excellent mod much more because in recent weeks there are fewer and fewer players in public matches it seems to me, and the most populated server is usually an Invasion one. And Invasion invariably means a boring first few rounds where a few kill hunters roam ahead to shoot half the bots as soon as they spawn, leaving the rest of the team bored to tears, then when the firepower isn't enough to kill the larger waves the musketmen run to hide in a corner where the AI struggles to reach, rather than filling enough pikeman slots to keep the bots at bay (which would help the musketmen get more kills of course, as they would have a target for longer rather than that target chasing them away). The very best experience I've had of this mod was one of the first, and it was in Invasion mode funnily enough. There were over 100 players on the server, on the map with the large white fort (Zbaraz?). But we didn't cower in the fort waiting for the AI to stop dead in face of the bugged ladders (except a few players. This was when the ladders were still buggy in Invasion mode by the way). We went down to the row of earthworks furthest from the fort, and the musketmen were largely arrayed behind the earthworks with the pikemen filling a gap in the middle, a few cavalry harassing the bots from the flank, and we had a fantastic match. This mod's potential gets wasted a lot in my opinion. I still have some great little matches in battle mode occasionally, but they are the only respite. I am usually disappointed by a fruitless wait for enjoyable gameplay in an Invasion game, or simply don't bother joining any of the pitifully small battle servers. By the way, why oh why does the Eagle's Nest map seem to be used so much for Invasion? The AI not only struggle to get through the forest (where some of them go in later waves) but they are very slow to enter the keep.

@NightHawkreal: Pikes work very well against humans as well. Try playing Invasion against Swedes, or even Cossacks- the player team gets demolished against modest numbers of Swedish pikes.

This morning we had a decent number of pikes. I think we had eight all told. We didn't lose until the pikes got bored and charged the tunnel getting three killed and everyone was overwhelmed without our support in the later rounds.

Ah, I think I know that map- the one with the low wall in front of the cave, and the wagon to the left of the cave? Nice map, and yes pikes are important to plug the gaps around the wagon and hold back the bots.

I lead once a group of pikemen where we set a pike wall just beside the cave opening with the opening left of our view. It became pretty effective since the bots, as soon as they left the cave opening, met a pike wall to their left. So we killed our fair share, but at the same time the musketeers could shoot a huge blobb of bots comfterbly pinned infront of them.

The tactic worked until some cowards in the formation thought there were to many bots and left; leaving me and a few others in the wall. So we got mushed.
I would prefer it if horseman would have some courtesy and would leave people alone when dueling.

That's because you just weren't good enough

Three good pikemen and enough trenches can stop any bot army at a chokepoint

I dearly thank you for that insult.

If you had read my comment you would have understood that more then 3 pikemen to make the wall. There were no trenches just us and our hard work.

Sorry, I didn't think you would take it that personally *Hug*

But why not use trenches? They're pretty useful, especially when you need your enemies
at range
