yep. he stopped the Danish Invasion of Norway

hes described as a Nice person and he was called Haakon the good and Haako the Mighty

he became the King of Norway cause of an Alliance with Harald Bluetooth but Harald were a christian and wanted The North to be christian so he sendt priest too norway.
this cause Harald and the rest of christian danmark to gather forces to invade norway soem of them were called Jomvikings, and at the coast of Sunnmøre Hákons 180 ships slaugthered danmark's 80 ships (including 40-45 Jomvikings ships)

I dont know if it is in Norway, but it's Holiday in Asatru - this day is symbol of possibility to praise Gods without persecutions. Because of Hakon (partially), native faith survived christian invasion, especially in Iceland, which was the first country in the world, where Forn Sidr became official religion. Also remember, that it is not only about religion - a lot of historical facts were confirmed by sagas, for example.

CelticHugs - It can't be official day becouse of christianity. They cant praise any pagan (funny how much of Holy Bible is inspired by paganism, but it is not our topic), and they for sure wouldnt admit that they killed to force people to praise Kvitekrist But every true patriotic norseman, and maybe even every patriotic native European should think about him this day - and drink a beer in his name.

For example - easter habit of colouring eggs is inspired by slavic paganism, people here were doing it long before Christ, but church wouldnt admit it is pagan habit. I think You understand what I mean
