Well if the officers gets shot its his own dammed fault for being in the way of the bullet, Skirmishers and Light Infantries job was to take out officers, drummers ect to cause confusion its a perfectly good tactic in my opinion, I instruct my men to aim for the officer if he is making himself a target. If he is standing next to the line then of course aim for centre mass of the line I want to see the enemy drop, but if he is making himself a target off to the side of the regiment or hiding behind then by all means, fair game, you also have to realise that if an officer does die you should have a replacement and his replacement and an other, because bullets will some time hit even if there not aimed at the officer.
Regiments that complain about the officer being shot, guess what it happened in real life, war is war, not sportsmanship.
