The 42nd (Black Watch) Regiment of Foot is a mature active Mount and Musket regiment that has many months of experience. We thrive on discipline in Trainings/Linebattles and Events however when no other events on we switch to relax mode and bond as a regiment and play other games to build friendships.

My aim for the 42nd Regiment of Foot is to bring 35 members from the Line Battalion and 6 members from the Artillery Company, I am happy to say we have nearly accomplished that goal, however we require a few more members for our Artillery detachment.

Ranks within the 42nd Regiment of Foot are not thrown around like toys but earnt through activity and dedication. If promotions drive you then all I can ask from you is to be active show commitment because it does go along however if you are a casual player all I ask from you is to turn up and have fun.

The 42nd (Blackwatch) Regiment of Foot was a British infantry regiment from 1748 to 1881. It was made up of 561 men (35 officers / 526 troops), it was comprised of 8 Centre Companies, 1 Grenadier Company and 1 Light Fusilier Company. In Egypt the 42nd captured an Imperial Eagle, in Spain the 1st Battalion's stalwart defence saved the lives of other Regiments and that of the military theorist and Scottish general John Moore. In Belgium the 42nd gained huge fame and love from Wellington himself at the Battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo. The 42nd was at the chaotic Battle of Quatre Bras on 16 June 1815 and was one of four battalions mentioned in despatches by Wellington. Two days later at the Battle of Waterloo, the 42nd and also the 2nd/73rd Highlanders, which was to become the 2nd Battalion, Black Watch, were both in some of the most intense fighting in the battle and lost 289 men. It is said that without Quatre Bras there would never have been a Battle of Waterloo.

Raised from the Six Independent Companies (Highland Watch) that made up the "police force" of the unruly and troublesome Highlands. The 43rd Regiment of Foot was created. A group intended to become a fully-fledged Regiment of the British army. However, this Regiment was made up of the gentlemen of the Highlands - chief’s sons and other relatives - who were used to somewhat cushy lives, even as Highland Watch men who's hardest task was to be simply be seen.

 These gentlemen soon realised, though, that there officers and drill-masters were to make real soldiers out of them. They too were told they may be being shipped to the West Indies. Mutiny ensued. This mutiny was soon put aside, whose core was made up of the Highland gentry themselves.

 The Regiment soon found themselves at the Battle of Fontenoy were they lost huge numbers of men but showed great prowess in battle. During these events, though, the Jacobite Rising occurred and the 43rd Regiment of Foot was shipped to Ireland were they were renumbered the 42nd Regiment of Foot.

 During its life and to this day, the 42nd has carried - with pride - the epithet "Am Freiceadan Dubh " [Pro;Am RAYCH-kiten Doo] "The Black Watch". This name comes from the Regiment's Independent Companies (Highland Watch) for bares. The etymology and history of this nickname may not have come from its dark tartan - considering that the scarlet jacket they wore was bright. But, comes from "black", or "dubh" being a character description and that in Highland culture "black" also means "dour".

The Black Watch has had a long tradition of loyalty to the Church.  It's first Chaplain, Dr Adam Ferguson, accompanied it in every battle and led it in worship, daily, both in peace and war.

Battle of Fontenoy

 The Regiment was first in action at the Battle of Fontenoy, soon after it's raising. Although this being an Allied and British defeat, the Black Watch gained huge credit and distinction with a French officer saying the Regiment were;
"Highland Furies who rushed in on us with more violence than ever did the sea driven by a tempest."
 At this Battle, the Regimental Chaplain, Adam Ferguson reportedly joined the ranks of his comrades, broadsword in hand saying;
"Damn my commission!"
 The Regiment suffered huge casualties, both in its famous Highland charges and when it was detailed to "cover" the retreating British army.


Ticonderoga
 Next the Regiment was engaged in the French-Indian War. During the attack on Ticonderoga Fort more than half the Regiment the lost more than half of its men. With its reputation it acquired in this battle, it recruited a second Battalion, which in turn gained such prestige that it becomes a separate Regiment - the 73rd.

	Recruit (Rec) Entry position given to those who have just enlisted into the regiment. These men have signed up for the regiment to be trained ready for battlefield duties.
	Private (Pte) This rank symbolizes that you have passed the recruitment phase of training and now officially a ranker within the 42nd Regiment of Foot.
	Regular (Rgl) The rank regular is award to those who are the most active and participate in most of the events, this rank also shows that you are proficient with a musket in melee and at range.
	Lance Corporal (LCpl) This is the first step into becoming an NCO, these men have been chosen for their potential skills in leading and skills on the battlefield.
	Corporal (Cpl) The first steps of leading, these men are learning the ways of leadership and are given a handful of men to lead so they pass down their experience.
	Serjeant (Sjt) Serjeants are the glue that holds their unit together. Their main focus is Line discipline and to set an example to all the ranks below them. They also might be asked to lead a class in training or command in a line battles should others die.
	Colour Serjeant (CSjt) A Colour Serjeant has the honour of guarding the Regimental colours and Kings colours in battle, he must ensure that the colours do no fall into the enemies hands.
	Company Serjeant Major (CSM) CSM's are the most senior NCO's within a company, these men thrive to discipline and are more feared than the French on the battlefield.
	Regiment Serjeant Major (RSM) The RSM is assigned to the Battalion staff, he is the Majors right hand man when it comes to discipline. He like no other man within the regiment he is classed as an officer without having the rank.
	Ensign (Ens) A Ensign is an Officer in training. He has the valiant job of carrying the colours into battle and when at the barracks drilling the men and gaining valuable leadership experience.
	Lieutenant (Lt) The Lieutenant is a Company Commander and thus in battle leads his men to fight the forces of the French.
	Captain (Cpt) This man is the Majors right hand man when it comes to the regiment, he is 2nd in command of the regiment when the Major is absence. Captains can also be a company commander.
	Major (Maj) The Major is the commander of the regiment and his word is finial. On the battlefield he dictates  where each element of the regiment goes and tries to outwit his enemies.
