Ancient History Devoid of Racism

<< < (4/6) > >>

Nahkuri:
If people 2000+ years ago weren't prejudiced against folks of different skin colour/other physical thing/noticeably different culture, I'm a trained monkey. It's in the brane.

Gilgameshismyhomey:
Prejudice has always existed and will always exist.

Skot the Sanguine:
Jews are Semites, just like anyone else in that region (Pheonicians were Semites too).  The only thing that made the tribes of Israel different WAS their religion.

Gilgameshismyhomey:
Yes, but most Jews had a single cultural identity at that time.  I'm simply pointing out that out of the cases of Jews and Christians being murdered in the coliseum, the Jew's case was more close to racism.  They were both because of their religion but Jews were being born and raised Jewish (culturally and religiously) whereas Christians were being converted from many different religious groups in the empire and thus didn't have that single cultural identity.  I'm not trying to diminish the idea of their execution bro.

There is a flaw in your logic.  Christianity is a culture just as Judaism is a culture.  There might have been Greek Christians and Gallic Christians and though their regions might have given them different dress and languages, their common link of Christianity gives them a shared culture in some respects.  Similarly, the Jews were not a single culture as you suggest at this period either.  Depending on where you were born in the Levant you spoke either Aramaic or Hebrew, and you might have even been heavily Hellenized from centuries of Greek influence.  What linked them all was their religion of Judaism.  So, how is that different than the Christians?
