Yeah only RTW and M2TW were really exceptional on the mod department so far as I know. Shogun didn't really have enough there to keep me interested. I still regret buying it.

Same here, I hear the multiplayer of Shogun is way better than any other game in the series though.
As for the expansion, it looks interesting for sure.

I do think that it went downhill since Empire,melee is absolutely terrible,not even realistic,like RTW and M2.IMO M2 was the best for realism ;P

I don't think any of those were any more realistic than it's successors. Cavalry charges in Rome sent people flying upwards into the air for some reason, you have units in M2 that fights to the last man even when they're severely disadvantaged, and the fighting that takes place in those games was too fast.
