Rangers of CalradiaDrawn from every corner of Calradia, their origins as mysterious as their purposes, come the Rangers -- masters of bow, lance, and sword. Focusing on tactical flexibility, the Rangers train all of their number to be adept with any weapon that they may need, to operate independently and use initiative in battle, and to fight in a wide variety of tactical situations.
OrganizationPotential members are assessed by the leadership according to three criteria to determine their strengths and weaknesses:
Horseman Criteria -- Ability to counter and screen enemy cavalry effectively, combat enemy foot, and remain aware of the enemy's position and movements.
Ranged Criteria -- Ability to effectively use both bows and crossbows as well as throwing weapons.
Infantry Criteria -- Ability to fight in melee, counter enemy cavalry, and cooperate as a member of a team.
Apprentice Ranger -- The first step on the Ranger's path, this member has shown a high level of skill in one area of combat, but has yet to achieve the diverse skill set expected of a full Ranger (passing rank in one criterion).
Ranger -- Well-rounded in warfare, this member has demonstrated that he can handle himself well with a broad-range of weapons under varying tactical situations (passing rank in two criteria).
Master Ranger -- The man who wields any weapon as though he were born to it, who fights lethally well on horse or on foot, in hill or in plain, in forest or town, this is a Master Ranger, the goal to which all Rangers strive. This rank is achieved by demonstrating a superior level of skill in all aspects of combat and tactics (maximum rank in all criteria).
Lieutenant of Rangers -- Assistant leader of the Rangers, this man aids the Captain in all aspects of administration and leadership. His commands are binding unless overturned by the Captain.
Captain of Rangers -- Leader of the Rangers. His word is law.
ConductThe are few rules among the Rangers. Rangers are expected to bear themselves with respect, honor, and maturity, and any who find this task too difficult will be relieved of it by expulsion. Since the Rangers' bedrock is the skill and flexibility of their warriors, members are expected to remain open-minded and continue to improve their skills as time permits.
