5) how about the ability to start a prison riot to help wen attacking a town

Ditto. I haven't seen that specific suggestion before, so I'll add it to the list, or something similar to it.

If we're having that, how about an option to poison the water supply? I know we can't have tunnelling or siege engines, but a couple of options to soften up a garrison wouldn't go amiss. Success could be based on engineering / tactics skills.

Definitely. ThunderClaw and I have discussed this in detail, some of which is in the reference documents you have access to on gdocs. Even though siege engines aren't a simple possibility, a lot of other things are, including garrison softening. I'd like to see all sorts of siege mechanics improved, like poisoning water/food supplies, starting riots, bribing, etc.

Much of it is possible for the player, the real crux is how you give AI lords access to the same mechanics.

just an idea about the garrison of troops in castles/towns you have just taken. How about the ability to hire the merc warbands that are roaming about to go defend the town/castle of your choice.

Could restrict it to just towns/castles you are lord of.

Would cost allot, both in initial hiring cost and also their wages.

There would be no guarantee when you approach them they would agree to it and they may end up fighting you ( if they think they can take you ).

you could also impose a contract length on them as an option, hire for a week, two weeks, month etc each with a larger initial price, dependant on size and quality of merc warband.

However, if they did they would either join your faction and head to the location you told them to go or if that's not possible due to game mechanics they could just despawn and after X amount of time would appear in garrison or what ever you guys think would work best ( I'm just guessing at what is possible).

they don't actually join your party, so you don't have to worry about party size limits and you cant use them for anything but garrison duty.

Basically they would be a kind of temporary force to give you time to hire/bring in your own forces after which you can just disband the mercs or let their contract run out.

anyway just an idea.

Some time ago, I was suggesting something similar, though my ideas were leaning more to aggressive action. ;-)

Recruiting mercs to guard some place instead of attacking seems like a right idea, though. Same money, but less work and much safer. And if the enemy comes in force, mercs can defect or get money from your enemies, switch sides and join them. Or even open your city gates, since they are in the garrison (and you let them in yourself). Further, each merc band should have a NPC leader with his own randomly generated character, so over time the player will learn what merc captains are reliable and what captains are not. :-)

This should also fit nicely into dev team plans for Skullduggery Expansion. :-)

Certainly not!

Thank you  I mean really what is that? It's beyond any comprehension. It's a bucket with oven-like bars on the face and WOODEN?! horns on the sides?! That is so laughably horrible. I'm really sorry to whoever made it but I can't get past how shocking it is.

I beg for a change there when the time permits it.

Hahaha    I would've never guessed ! That is epic in it's own right if that was the true intention. But it is still horrific  Now if you just add a NPC that would appear on sieges telling me my father was a hamster and my mother smelled of elderberries...

He would have to have a ridiculous 'French' accent & owning a shrubbery might help too.

Long time player of strategy games.....I know one thing that a strategist craves is building.  So you HAVE to consider building a castle from scratch.  Also having opportunity to make them smoking ruin on landscape to be rebuilt, fadeaway and or a nice rubble heap. Call them fortified towns if you want.  Also the one thing you have to have is a village you are born in with special rights because of it being your birthplace. With manufacturing  a weapon or product of your choice to make caravans.  Really strategy gamers ARE the special character. Let's not treat them like crap throughout the damn game.  Players should be able to be wiped out but NOT because they don't have chance at all.  I'm kind of hoping real players can read thru the lines and understand my meaning.

would it be possible to have your reputation for villages increase due to the action you take, out in the world?

So say you are a vassal of the Nords who are at war with the Swadians. and you lay siege to a Swadian town/castle and take it. Your reputation with all the Nord villages/towns would then go up, your the hero of the hour, the more battles you win against the hated enemy, the more lands you take/defend for the Nords, the more famous you would become and the more the villagers and towns people would respect you, so your reputation with them should go up and as a result more people would be willing to join you when you try to recruit from the villages towns. Rather than just having to do missions for individual villages.

You could also have the opposite effect for the faction villages/towns you are taking, you just took Suno from the Swadians so there not gonna be too happy and so your reputation with those villages that are still under Swadian control would go down.

It seems daft that you you beat all these lords and take all these castles and towns in the name of your chosen faction and all the people back home still treat you as a complete stranger not the hero you are. Even if one of your factions villages is being raided and you turn up and beat the raiders it has no effect on your reputation with the village (think I'm right on that) let alone the rest of the nation. Which doesn't make much sense to me. Wheres the love!  :)

Sounds to me like you are thinking more of Crusader Kings, Civilisation or Rome Grand Ages.

I have been playing strategy games since the Atari ST.
M&B really isn't a strategy game.
Also I do consider myself to be a 'real' player

I agree, but I am not sure how easy that would be to implement.
