Haha you blaggards, I got the new Wacom on it's way in the post aswell. Bloody fine tablets for the price tag, bloody fine indeed. They are wired but if your that bothered you can fork out a £35 more for a wireless adapter. Once your wallet is empty and you can't afford Photoshop or acquire it in a dubious manner there is always Gimp and Paint.Net some nice free alternatives. But if you fancy a hand at MSPaint and pixel art you should hit up Pixen for Mac, or Grafx2 and GraphicsGale for Windows. Art aplenty!

Any other nice little programs people know of?

How often do you buy new nibs?

Actually since I want to buy one soonish I have two more questions, is there a large difference between small and medium size bamboo, and what models would you recommend me?

I just recently was going to buy a bamboo with a nice discount, but then I saw its small, and medium one costs twice as much. I have old ituos 2 with a5 drawing surface and its quite nice, so I didnt buy that bamboo. A5 is almost an ideal format (medium bamboo has it)anything less is too small and anything bigger isnt compact enough. I wouldnt recommend wasting money on small one, I mean you would want to buy a bigger eventually.

Right, my Wacom is waiting for more to come in stock so I can cancel it if I get some nice feedback. I spent blooming ages deliberating over a tablet. It's my first tablet so I didn't think I would need to go that big and would rather have the build quality, guarantee, support and excellent features that Wacoms provide but a part of me is still yelling get a cheaper bigger one! But I just don't trust bloody Amazon reviews and I can't find any gems on ebay lately so I ask you chaps for some advice.

Do I stick with my small yet most likely adequate Wacom purchase, with advanced lovely features, gotta love that pen, no batteries.

Do I roll with this rather large yet cheap Aiptek, which sounds good from reviews but I can't find much else about it.

Again another larger cheaper product that doesn't scream of quality but it's bloody cheap.

From some other reviews I have read this is apparently quite nice and is pretty handy for tracing, but is let down by software and pen once again.

Or do you recommend I hold out for ages yet and get a more expensive yet better tablet? Say an Intuos4?

Why is tech such a pain in the ass. Oh and I'm rocking a 24" monitor so yarp, that comes into play in my mind.

my first nibs (I got fabout five with my tablet) went off in few months, then the surface become smooth and now I have nib for more than six months and it doesn't show any defect

If you get used to the smaller one, you probably wont miss the bigger... though I hated the fast response when I tried the small one (i have A5 at home). It also depends on size of your monitor. Clearly you don't need tablet bigger than your laptop but it hurts if you have small A6 tablet for super big monitor

if you want to go for A6 I would buy Intuos4, if you want bigger A5 (probably better for drawings as I do) I would buy bamboo, its thin and comfortable...
Sadly, I have no experience with A5 intuos4. I have the feeling it is more expensive than bamboo of the same size though.

BTW: Æthelwulf, for that price, I cant imagine better option
all other are for some silly office work or something, I would never draw with it :D

...

Don't trust Trust nor any other of those, they are cheap for a reason and generally are turds. From what I heard of those manufacturers tablets are imprecise, lag, and don't have as nice and responsive pressure control as wacom does (and it surely has much less pressure levels).

Aye, I'm just gonna stick with the cheapo Wacom for now. I would rather get a nicer smaller purchase with good build quality, then once I get used to tablet drawing save up for a nice Intuos.
