Hey, I'm new to the forum.

I've just downloaded the mod after purchasing Warband from steam. But when I tried to access the online server, I apparently had the wrong version. Do I have to download some sort of server or something?

Where did you download it?

It could be that your warband version is not updated to the newest patch 1.143 yet, maybe you could check by starting the game and looking for the version number..
If you install Vikingr 0.84 with the installer it should at least be the right version of the mod, so that shouldn't cause any problems. If the normal games version is wrong though, and not 1.143 it will cause problems...

Ah yes, that function doesn't really work. You have to select the module from the launcher. From the dropdown menu select 'Vikingr' instead of 'Native'.
And now I'm really off to bed, so see you tomorrow! (in-game hopefully!)

Yeah, I always choose the Mod from the launcher. I know all of that. The mod and the game itself works, just can't join the online server "Fyrningum" or any other servers of Vikingr. It won't recognise that I have the right version which is 0.84. Funny thing is that it let's me in when I use the older version 0.80 and 0.83 but then I can't play because it comes up in big red letters that I need to use the 0.84 version!

Off to bed as well, got some teaching to do in the morning!

Well if you get a message that you're not currently using the same module as the server then you didn't start with the mod correctly (or something is messed up  ). The folder should be called "Vikingr" nothing else. But since you get in with an older version I guess this is probably not the problem.

Just to be sure, this is how you do it:

• Install Warband 1.143
• Install Vikingr
• Start launcher
• Select "Vikingr" as current module
• Join a game and enjoy!

If it doesn't work I'd try reinstalling Warband and/or Vikingr.

Hálfdanarson, if you get "module wrong" when clicking on the Fyrnigium Server click "no" when I asked to change to "native" and try a second time...or wait a few seconds longer before clicking the server...

It was the module name which I had named "vikingr 0.84" which was the cause for the error, changed it to "Vikingr" and it worked. 

Been playing a couple of rounds this afternoon, but I really suck atm. But got into it in the end..it really is a teamgame isn't it? Rushing into it just get's you killed!

Anyway, if I were to sign up, how do I do it?
Is it just "formal" to deside which team I'm going to be on and then later just join the the server for gaming?

Dont worry about skill, its not really a competition but rather good fun 
If you want to join in you actually don't have to do anything apart from reading the thread to get an overview and joining into the teamspeak channel, so that you can hear your team mates for coordination, it doesn't matter if you don't have a microphone on your own.

Right now you would probably best join the Engle (anglo-saxon) side, as the viking warhosts are mostly clan-based and many of them russian speaking. An english-speaking host for the viking side is on its way though, so if you wait a bit you might be able to join it.
