Yeah, but they just stand there as you ride past with your sword out and ready to hit something...only if you're really close do they shield and then too slow, even for a low level...

By the way.. Thanks to the formations i was able to destroy the roman army in the start battle. They just stood there and i poked them full of holes with my spear.. So the formations are not very good.. They make the enemy really easy to kill.

But against the AI they own, if you play like they wanted you as a rebel  to play you will see how effective it is against unorganized charges.

That's true, i noticed when i didn't tell my troops to stop that they all got killed in seconds..
