So, if i'm riding around with a relatively small number of units, but a good number of companions, that would help a lot, even if the regular troops are unmounted correct

Yes. Also unmounted units with high athletics skill move faster on the map than those with low athletics.

That is why it's a lot better to hire mercs in the begining....hiring recruits will make more trouble than they are worth without proper training skills
And I was made of wood and stone and won't diminish or bend
So when the heavy hand of death is here to take me away
I'll be the solid grip of time, forever holding my stay
Nobody ever made a force that took a beating like me
I call the earth and every scum to come and try to fight me

Are the Knights of the Dawn the best mounted, melee knighthood order? Is their equipment bad or something to make up for their better starting stats?

No, their equipment is actually quite good. Heavy plate armour, strong shield and a long knight lance among other things. Knights of the Eventide have equal level and more variety among equipment (a blunt weapon for example) but slightly worse stats. Unfortunately you start out at -40 relations with them.
The main reason why those two are "better" than the other knights is because they are harder to get by. First you have to build up relations to at least 0 and then met specific conditions (i.e. own Valonbray or have Sir Alistair in party).
Otherwise there are the knights of the griffon that make a good case. Only lvl 45 but easy to get and they very often spawn with their lance which makes them quite badass when you let'em charge.

I noticed very little difference between Dawn and Eventide during sieges. Both will fight with one-hand and shield excluding the occasional retard that picks his lance.
Because of their similar stats both are equally usefull.

If you haven't already I urge you to consider the Knights of the Ebony Gauntlet for sieging. They are super heavily armoured crossbowmen that will snipe the defenders of the walls and then charge in to mutilate the lonely remainders.

which is the "better" way to couch,  aiming over the horse, or on the lance side?

is there a way to couch with aiming set to anything other than automatic?

I use manual aim and go for the other riders horse.. too easy for them to parry my lance aside if i aim for the rider. Also my troops get the kill, so less exp for me.. means i won't level as fast, and enemy(or potential enemy, when i have yet to start my kingdom) lord parties won't grow as fast. Few cases where it wont work, darn netherworld horses and such.

Sorry, guess i wasnt clear. in original m&b, you could only couch to the lance side of your character. in Warband, you can aim either to the left over your horses head, or the the right.

Oh, i aim to the right of my horse, but then i am going for the enemies flank, which is the far left side of their lines. That and trying to avoid the shield side, might shatter a shield, but still rather dehorse them so they cannot lance and are an easier kill for my troops. Also tend to swing the sword from my right side when i can, seems to get a bit more reach than swinging at a target to the left.

That's not possible. Someone (not necessarily you) has to attack it. I'd simply wait for a castle or a town to be conquered by another faction, and then attack it. Garrisons then have 50-200 soldiers.
Also, you can diminish the enemy soldiers in several attacks with your archers before attempting to charge in. Just know that everytime you withdraw from the siegebattle there'll be a honour and renown loss. Still, sometimes it's worth it.

1. So does the strenght of garrisons and other lords armies depends of my character lvl? :O

2. is it possible to import a character to a new game, i cant find any option like this, but i heard that its possible

3. and once upon a time i found here information about tweaking in script companion quitting roll so it is always positive (so i was able to recruit them all), but coundnt find it anymore, could anyone give me a link of where to search :)
